Senior Operations Manager - Highland Road Quartz Facility

The Senior Operations Manager is tasked with overseeing company policies, safety and environmental initiatives, quality assurance, and the manufacturing processes at the quartz facility. This role champions and facilitates continuous improvement initiatives such as 5S, kaizen events, and the variable cost productivity (VCP) portfolio. The position is pivotal in enhancing productivity and optimizing the production capabilities of the site. Additionally, this role is responsible for formulating and executing a manufacturing strategy that aligns with the overall business objectives, developing justifications for investments, creating the annual operating plan, achieving cost targets, and driving process reliability for enhanced capacity and performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set Environmental Health & Safety objectives and metrics in line with business goals, ensuring compliance with standards and permits while fostering employee engagement in health and safety initiatives.
  • Lead a multi-year expansion and growth strategy at the facility.
  • Ensure compliance with the ISO9001:2001 management system, continuously improve quality metrics (Process Order Scrap and Cost of Poor Quality), and collaborate with product managers to enhance customer satisfaction through strategic and tactical actions.
  • Provide leadership for manufacturing initiatives focused on EHS improvements, capacity enhancement, productivity gains, and process capability upgrades.
  • Exhibit leadership in achieving results through the application of continuous improvement methodologies, preventive maintenance, and related programs.
  • Collaborate across various business functions (product management, finance, HR, etc.) to meet site and business objectives, ensuring effective communication of site activities and needs.
  • Guide and mentor direct and indirect reports, fostering a culture of planning, accountability, and responsibility to meet overall business goals.
  • Oversee the development of the site’s annual operating plan (AOP), including cost projections for expected volumes, headcount planning, VCP, and capital investments while identifying strategic considerations.
  • Monitor and report on site metrics, identifying trends, publishing results, and engaging with business leadership regarding site performance.
  • Manage production and inventory planning, including short and long-range planning (asset utilization, headcount availability), and engage in inventory reduction initiatives as necessary to support business objectives.
  • Demonstrate visible leadership by participating in daily Gemba walks, leading site communication meetings for regular updates, and engaging with the workforce in the plant environment.
  • Oversee property and facilities management responsibilities for internal and external occupants of the facility.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • 15+ years of experience in manufacturing with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience in managing a 24/7 operation.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Continuous Improvement methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA).
  • Experience in a larger multinational organization with a proven track record in leading large-scale change and cultural development.
  • Six Sigma Greenbelt certification (preferred), with strong skills in statistical analysis and problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with SAP or comparable ERP systems.

Travel Requirements:
  • 5-10%.
