POSITION SUMMARY:

The Insurance Authorization Coordinator plays a vital role within the authorization department, operating under the guidance of the practice manager. This position is essential for securing authorizations for physical and occupational therapy services, along with other necessary ancillary services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Efficiently navigate therapy EMR systems and payer authorization platforms to secure approvals for scheduled treatments, including initial assessments, follow-up visits, durable medical equipment (DME), and other services requiring insurance authorization. Ensure verification of eligibility and benefits for all relevant procedure codes.

· Analyze patients' medical histories and insurance plans to facilitate approval processes. Maintain accurate documentation of workflows as mandated.

· Communicate with referring physicians to gather additional information as needed, ensuring all paperwork is processed and routed appropriately to comply with physician and regulatory standards.

· Enter new patient data and update existing records in the practice management system.

· Record prior authorization details in the electronic health record (EHR), including the number of authorized treatments, duration of authorization, authorization numbers, and contact information for insurance representatives.

· Provide support with administrative tasks as required.

· Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent and emergent situations.

· Adhere to all established protocols and procedures within the clinic, including the OCC handbook and departmental policies.

· Exhibit professionalism and courtesy towards patients and their families.

· Ensure effective communication via telephone when necessary.

· Collaborate as a team member within the authorization department and across other departments.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

· Proficient understanding of medical terminology, ICD-10, and CPT coding.

· Familiarity with various insurance plans and authorization procedures.

· Strong computer and telephone skills.

· Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities.

· Capacity to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.

· Flexibility to adapt to varying plan and lien requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Typical office setting with potential for local travel. Frequent use of computer monitors, typing, and mousing. Regular standing, walking, and sitting, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Specific vision capabilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Standard business hours are Monday through Friday, with the possibility of early, late, or extended hours as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.

SALARY: $18.29/hr - $24/hr
