Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Optical Technician Instructor to join our team at American Career College. As an Adjunct Faculty Member, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to our students, providing a supportive learning environment, and contributing to the growth and development of our program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver curriculum in accordance with approved syllabi, program objectives, and timelines.
  • Employ effective instructional methods and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students, adapting to diverse needs as necessary.
  • Prepare outlines of instructional programs and training schedules, ensuring alignment with established course objectives.
  • Observe and evaluate student work, providing constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement.
  • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through relevant assignments.
  • Present lectures and conduct discussions to enhance students' knowledge and competence, utilizing visual aids as needed.
  • Administer standardized assessments, supervise independent or group projects, and provide individualized tutorial and remedial instruction.
  • Conduct simulated on-the-job training, classes, or training sessions to teach and demonstrate principles, techniques, procedures, and methods of designated subjects.
  • Provide books, materials, supplies, and equipment for training, courses, or projects approved by the college.
  • Monitor and record daily class attendance and grades, adhering to established procedures and deadlines.
  • Post and maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility to students for advisement and consultation.
  • Participate in graduation ceremonies, refer students to other college personnel or departments as needed, and work collaboratively with college administration, staff, and faculty members to improve overall program operations.
  • Maintain student records and confidentiality, substitute for other instructors within the field or discipline in case of an absence, and exercise stewardship of college facilities and materials.
  • Participate in conferences, seminars, and training sessions, attending at least one professional development activity annually, two in-service events annually, and faculty meetings.
  • Contribute to the marketing and recruitment of students, faculty, and staff, maintaining a professional appearance and adhering to college policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate from a program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in the specialty field or subject area taught.
  • Certification from the American Board of Opticianry (ABO) or National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE) or other credential required by local, state, and/or federal laws, to be obtained within six months of hire date.
  • Two years of occupational experience in the subject field taught, or three years of occupational experience in the subject field taught (if candidate does not meet the education requirement).
  • Ability to demonstrate a thorough, accurate, and practical knowledge of the field or discipline, interpret and evaluate theories, operate related equipment and machines, and manage a diverse student and associate community.
  • Effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, adhere to college policies and procedures, and exercise stewardship of college facilities and materials.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of teaching experience in the subject areas taught or prior training in instructional methodology and teaching skills from a formal teacher educational program or comparable training program.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, ability to travel/drive locally, and bilingual skills (not mandatory).
