Fuel Tank Compliance and Permitting Advisor

The Fuel Tank Compliance and Permitting Advisor role is crucial in managing programs related to fuel storage tanks, ensuring adherence to environmental legislation, regulations, and permit stipulations.
Key Responsibilities
The position focuses on fuel tank permitting and compliance across various jurisdictions, each with its unique set of rules and regulations. This role is dedicated solely to tank permitting and compliance, distinct from Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) functions.
- Monitor the compliance status of ongoing permitting projects and existing permits.
- Develop compliance strategies to tackle challenges faced by different facilities.
- Draft and maintain Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans.
- Interpret regulations concerning fuel tanks and provide guidance on permitting requirements across the U.S. and Canada.
- Evaluate compliance risks, costs, and timelines associated with potential projects.
- Engage with local, state, and federal regulatory bodies in the U.S. and Canada.
- Prepare, review, and submit fuel tank permit applications and various environmental compliance reports for both owned and client assets.
The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in managing fuel tank permits and regulatory compliance across diverse states and regions with varying obligations.
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or a related scientific field.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in tank permitting or environmental compliance, particularly concerning fuel tank regulations.
- Experience in industrial, manufacturing, or energy sectors, or consulting for these industries is highly desirable.
- Ability to accurately assess ongoing permit compliance requirements based on fuel tank permits and the regulations of the issuing authority.
- Familiarity with SPCC Plans, including construction, maintenance, inspections, and compliance.
- Proficient in interpreting federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Capable of independently drafting and submitting permit applications to regulatory agencies.
- Experience collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely application submissions.
- Understanding of the tank permitting process and fundamental environmental regulatory procedures.
- Ability to interpret complex regulatory and permitting concepts.
- Experience working with environmental consulting firms and/or regulatory agencies is preferred.
- Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining productivity.
- Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management capabilities.
- Oversee the fuel tank permitting program for the installation of fuel tanks for engine-generators at various locations.
- Coordinate multiple projects to ensure timely submission of applications.
- Review regulatory requirements for the permitting process and complete necessary applications.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to obtain required documentation for applications.
- Assess projects to determine the necessity for fuel tank permits/registrations.
- Maintain and update SPCC plans for all owned fuel tank assets.
- Ensure compliance of all fuel tanks through required inspections.
- Coordinate tank inspections for installations.
- Support marketing and proposal initiatives.
