The Fuel Tank Compliance and Permitting Expert at PowerSecure, Inc. plays a pivotal role in overseeing programs related to fuel storage tanks, ensuring adherence to environmental regulations and permit stipulations. This position is dedicated solely to the compliance and permitting of fuel tanks across various jurisdictions, each with its own set of rules and regulations. It is important to note that this role does not encompass Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

The primary duties of this role include:

  • Monitoring the compliance status of ongoing permitting projects and existing permits.
  • Formulating compliance strategies to tackle challenges associated with various facilities.
  • Drafting and maintaining Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans.
  • Interpreting regulations concerning fuel tanks and offering guidance on permitting requirements across the U.S. and Canada.
  • Evaluating compliance risks, costs, and timelines related to potential projects.
  • Engaging with local, state, and federal regulatory bodies throughout the U.S. and Canada.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and submitting fuel tank permit applications and environmental compliance reports for both owned and client assets.
Qualifications

To excel in this position, candidates should meet the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in tank permitting or environmental compliance, with a focus on fuel tank regulations.
  • Experience in industrial, manufacturing, or energy sectors, or consulting within these industries is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in determining ongoing permit compliance requirements based on fuel tank permits and relevant regulations.
  • Familiarity with SPCC Plans, including construction, maintenance, inspections, and compliance.
  • Ability to interpret federal, state, and local environmental regulations accurately.
  • Experience in drafting and submitting permit applications with minimal oversight.
  • Collaboration skills to work effectively with various internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Functions

The role involves:

  • Administering the fuel tank permitting program for installations across various locations.
  • Coordinating multiple projects to ensure timely application submissions.
  • Reviewing regulatory requirements and completing necessary permit applications.
  • Collaborating with engineering teams to obtain required documentation for applications.
  • Assessing project needs for fuel tank permits and registrations.
  • Maintaining SPCC plans for all owned fuel tank assets.
  • Ensuring compliance through regular inspections of fuel tanks.
  • Facilitating tank inspections for installations nationwide.
  • Supporting marketing and proposal efforts.
