New York, New York, United States Job Path Full time
Position Overview

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities? Do you enjoy engaging with diverse communities and helping others navigate their personal journeys? If so, this role may be the perfect fit for you.

At Job Path, we are dedicated to empowering autistic individuals and those with developmental challenges, assisting them in making informed choices and actively participating in their communities. We are in search of enthusiastic, dependable, and innovative individuals to provide personalized support in various community environments.

The Community Connections initiative at Job Path aims to enhance the visibility of individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring they are recognized as integral members of society. Our approach is centered around the individual, fostering meaningful connections between participants and their communities.

We are currently seeking Community Support Specialists to assist participants who are new to our programs. Our support extends throughout the city, focusing on individuals located in various neighborhoods.

Our participants have a wide range of interests, including sports and fitness, creative arts, technology, and childcare. We welcome applicants with diverse backgrounds and communication styles, particularly those who are eager to help participants acclimate to our programs and develop their skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Individualized Support

  • Facilitating connections for individuals to engage with their communities and contribute meaningfully.
  • Collaborating with families and community members to establish links with local organizations.
  • Assisting individuals in volunteer roles, classes, social gatherings, and other community events.
  • Supporting individuals in achieving their personal and professional aspirations.
  • Enhancing self-esteem through shared activities rather than performing tasks for them.
  • Providing opportunities for new experiences and personal growth.
  • Encouraging decision-making and autonomy in all aspects of life.
  • Supporting social interactions to build confidence and foster positive relationships.
  • Respecting the individual's desires and choices to help them lead fulfilling lives.

Team Collaboration

  • Maintaining clear and honest communication with supervisors.
  • Offering support and constructive feedback to fellow team members.
  • Participating in staff meetings and contributing ideas and insights.

Health & Safety Awareness

  • Being knowledgeable and capable of addressing medical needs, such as allergies and health concerns.
  • Providing physical assistance in a respectful and dignified manner.

Documentation and Communication

  • Completing required documentation, including case notes and timesheets, in a timely manner.
  • Following up on necessary paperwork as directed by supervisors.

Successful candidates will be adaptable and responsive to the evolving needs of the individuals we support. Some participants may require physical assistance, and applicants should be open to providing such support when necessary.

Qualifications: A high school diploma or GED is required, along with proficiency in written and spoken English. Previous experience is advantageous but not mandatory. We seek individuals who thrive in dynamic, people-focused environments and are attuned to the needs of those with disabilities. Basic computer skills are necessary for tasks such as email communication and documentation.

Compensation: The hourly rate for this position is $19.00.

Benefits: Employees are eligible for a Work/Life Assistance Program, pre-tax commuter and medical FSA plans, and a 403b retirement plan with employer matching after two years of service. Health, dental, and enhanced short-term disability insurance are available for employees averaging 28 hours per week after a specified measurement period.

Application Process: Job Path carefully reviews all applications. Interested candidates should submit their resumes and thoughtful responses to the application questionnaire through the designated job board.

Equal Opportunity Employer: Job Path is committed to diversity and inclusion. All qualified applicants will be considered for employment without discrimination based on race, color, creed, national origin, sex, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or citizenship status.
