The Construction Manager will serve as the Owner's Representative, overseeing activities related to the new construction and renovation of various agricultural retail sites. This includes ensuring environmental compliance, managing buildings, bulk fertilizer storage, and handling, as well as office and site enhancements. The role involves collaborating with general managers during the conceptualization of construction projects and equipment upgrades. Responsibilities encompass all project management tasks associated with contracts involving general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, design consultants, and more. This position reports to the Senior Manager of Construction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed scopes of work and collaborate with the Purchasing Manager to prepare Requests for Proposals. Analyze and assess proposals for suitability.
  • Examine plans and specifications for precision and thoroughness, providing insights on cost, constructability, and material integrity. Suggest value engineering alternatives.
  • Engage in negotiations with contractors, consultants, vendors, and suppliers to secure comprehensive scopes of work at competitive prices and timelines. Present recommendations for contract awards to senior management and ownership. Review RFIs, submittals, change order requests, and payment applications while maintaining organized project files.
  • Interpret and analyze critical path construction schedules.
  • Conduct construction monitoring to ensure adherence to plans, specifications, manufacturer requirements, industry standards, and regulations.
  • Participate in and lead Construction Progress Meetings, Design Coordination Meetings, Payment Application Meetings, and other relevant discussions.
  • Foster positive relationships with co-workers, partners, clients, contractors, consultants, and municipal officials.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned, occasionally supporting other departments or managers for special projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is required; relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with a general contractor or developer managing new 'Turn Key' construction projects.
  • Preferred background in Metal Building Systems.
  • Proficient understanding of materials, methods, and tools used in the construction and renovation of agricultural buildings and storage systems. Knowledge of Environmental, Health, and Safety practices is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with engineering and technology applications related to the design and construction of bulk fertilizer facilities and storage solutions.
  • Awareness of policies, procedures, and strategies for safeguarding workers, the public, materials, and structures during construction activities.
  • Fluency in English, with strong comprehension of vocabulary, grammar, and composition.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Adept at analyzing and organizing information, with the ability to present findings to senior management.
  • Familiar with design techniques and principles necessary for producing coordinated construction documents (conceptual design, BIM/Revit, etc.), and capable of coordinating design teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Understanding of legal, economic, and accounting principles relevant to construction.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects of varying sizes and scopes simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to establish long-term goals and strategies to achieve them.
  • Willingness to travel overnight as necessary.

Compensation & Benefits:

The estimated salary range for this position is $86,100 - $147,600 annually, based on data from various employment platforms. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as location, experience, and skills.

We also provide a retirement program with generous employer matching contributions.
