Position Overview:

We are in search of a motivated and proficient scientist to spearhead protein purification, production, and characterization initiatives within our Rapid Response Group (RRG), a dedicated team in our Discovery Division. The RRG operates with a hands-on, mission-driven approach, engaging in high-impact projects to create essential tools, methodologies, and data that bolster our therapeutic programs. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in this distinguished team, advancing research on protein targets and therapeutic innovations. This position is integral to our R&D objectives, directly impacting our success by addressing protein-related challenges and facilitating the conversion of groundbreaking discoveries into viable therapeutics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine protein expression systems, concentrating on baculovirus (insect cell) and/or mammalian systems, and execute sub-cloning as necessary to support these initiatives.
  • Design and establish innovative purification protocols to tackle technical challenges, leveraging extensive knowledge in molecular biology and biochemistry.
  • Diagnose and enhance protein expression and purification strategies, ensuring the production of high-quality proteins through sophisticated chromatographic and filtration methods.
  • Evaluate experimental data, assist in scale-up processes, and drive ongoing improvements while maintaining adherence to timelines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborate across various functions with immuno-oncology, virology, and structural biology teams, sharing expertise to improve our capability to work with a diverse array of proteins.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a related discipline; outstanding MS candidates may be considered.
  • 5-7 years of pertinent experience in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
  • Proficiency in construct design, sub-cloning, and protein purification, with experience encompassing the entire protein production pipeline, from gene design to characterization.
  • Extensive expertise and practical experience with various protein expression systems, particularly baculovirus and/or mammalian expression, demonstrated by a history of work across different protein classes.
  • Experience in purifying biologics utilizing techniques such as affinity chromatography (e.g., Protein A/G/L, Ni-NTA), ion exchange, size exclusion, and hydrophobic interaction chromatography.
  • Competence in analytical techniques such as SDS-PAGE, HPLC or UHPLC, and other relevant analytical methods.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills, strong analytical capabilities, meticulous attention to detail, and outstanding organizational skills.
  • High degree of independence, intellectual capacity, and initiative.
  • Strong work ethic and adaptability, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain a positive attitude as R&D priorities evolve.
