Position Overview:
We are in search of a dedicated and proficient scientist to spearhead efforts in protein purification, production, and characterization within our Rapid Response Group (RRG), a specialized unit in our Discovery Division. The RRG adopts a hands-on, mission-driven approach, engaging in high-impact projects to develop essential tools, methodologies, and data that bolster our therapeutic initiatives. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in this distinguished team, advancing research on protein targets and therapeutic development. This position is vital to our R&D objectives, directly impacting our success by addressing protein-related challenges and facilitating the transition of groundbreaking discoveries into viable therapeutics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and refine protein expression systems, concentrating on baculovirus (insect cell) and/or mammalian systems, and execute sub-cloning as necessary to support these initiatives.
- Design and implement innovative purification protocols to tackle technical challenges, leveraging a profound understanding of molecular biology and biochemistry.
- Troubleshoot and enhance protein expression and purification strategies, ensuring high-quality protein production through sophisticated chromatographic and filtration techniques.
- Analyze experimental data, assist in scale-up processes, and drive continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with timelines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Collaborate across functions with teams in immuno-oncology, virology, and structural biology, sharing expertise to improve our capacity to work with a diverse array of proteins.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a related discipline; exceptional MS candidates may be considered.
- 5-7 years of pertinent experience in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
- Expertise in construct design, sub-cloning, and protein purification, with experience covering the entire protein production pipeline, from gene design to characterization.
- Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with various protein expression systems, particularly baculovirus and/or mammalian expression, demonstrated by a history of prior work across different protein classes.
- Experience in purifying biologics using techniques such as affinity chromatography (e.g., Protein A/G/L, Ni-NTA), ion exchange, size exclusion, and hydrophobic interaction chromatography.
- Proficiency in analytical techniques such as SDS-PAGE, HPLC or UHPLC, and other relevant analytical methods.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills, strong analytical capabilities, meticulous attention to detail, and outstanding organizational skills.
- High degree of independence, intellectual capacity, and initiative.
- Strong work ethic and adaptability, with the ability to multitask and maintain a positive attitude as R&D priorities evolve.
