Position Overview

As a Certified Nurse Midwife, you will deliver comprehensive physical and emotional support to mothers throughout the stages of labor, delivery, and the postpartum period. Your role will involve assessing progress and managing the labor process, as well as providing immediate care for newborns.

Key Responsibilities


1. Conduct thorough history and physical assessments for new patients entering the labor suite, documenting findings in collaboration with the supervising physician.


2. Engage in discussions regarding new admissions with the attending physician and nursing team, particularly focusing on any identified complications.


3. Determine the primary caregiver for each patient and formulate a tailored care plan.


4. Execute admission diagnostics and care procedures, which may include pelvic examinations, cervical cultures, blood draws, and initiation of intravenous therapy.


5. Monitor the progress of labor for all patients in the labor and delivery area, working closely with the attending physician and nursing staff.


6. Observe fetal heart rate patterns and promptly inform the relevant physician of any significant changes.


7. Perform periodic examinations to assess labor progress, continuously evaluating both maternal and fetal responses.


8. Report any irregularities in the patient's condition to the physician, including but not limited to meconium presence, bleeding, hypertonic labor, fetal distress, and labor progression issues.


9. Actively participate in the delivery process.



Additional Duties
All responsibilities outlined are considered essential functions of the role under applicable regulations. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and a Master's Degree in Nurse Midwifery from an accredited educational institution are required.

• A current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State is mandatory, along with a valid Nurse Midwife license in New York.

• Certification from the American Midwifery Board is required.

• Must maintain a collaborative practice agreement with a physician and adhere to designated protocols, both of which must be filed with the New York State Department of Education.
