The Role at McKinstry

We are looking for a Senior Employee Relations Partner to enhance our expanding Human Resources division. In this capacity, you will oversee employee relations matters and investigations across the organization. You will work closely with HR colleagues, legal advisors, and corporate leaders on intricate employee-related issues, either conducting investigations directly or guiding HR peers through the process of employee coaching and mentoring on relevant topics. Furthermore, you will be responsible for establishing the overall methodology and approach to managing employee relations at McKinstry, which includes documenting clear and consistent standard operating procedures (SOPs) and providing recommendations through a people-first lens, aligned with McKinstry values, best practices, fairness, and compliance. Your responsibilities will encompass:

Employee Relations & Investigations Strategy

Serve as the subject matter expert and primary resource for all employee relations and investigation matters. Conduct (or mentor others in) prompt, equitable, impartial, and comprehensive investigations into sensitive employee relations issues, including allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, hostile work environments, and policy breaches. Prepare investigation reports with clear findings and recommendations, evaluating any process gaps or practices that may pose legal risks to mitigate organizational liability. Ensure objective, fair, and impartial conclusions to facilitate amicable resolutions for all parties involved. Analyze, refine, and implement effective employee relations strategies and policies that align with organizational goals and values. Maintain a documented, consistent approach to investigations and disciplinary actions, including clear SOPs, knowledge management, and defined roles and responsibilities. Stay informed on employment laws and regulations, ensuring compliance and proactively addressing potential risks. Collaborate across HR functions to identify and elevate people trends and issues. Explore and develop restorative initiatives that assist teams and employees in moving forward after an investigation.

Internal Partnership & Coaching

Collaborate closely with HR Business Partner & People Relations teams, senior leadership, legal counsel, and business leaders on complex and sensitive situations. Provide guidance, coaching, and support to HR colleagues on various employee relations issues, including performance management, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions. Build strong working relationships with the Directors of HRBP teams. Evaluate and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency and reduce employee-related concerns. Lead training sessions to elevate HR colleagues' skills and approaches to employee investigations. Participate in training to enhance managers' capabilities in effectively handling employee-related matters. Coach on appropriate workplace behavior, fostering a culture of respect and inclusivity. Collaborate on the creation of manager toolkits and training resources to minimize the need for one-on-one coaching.

Qualifications for Success at McKinstry

7+ years of progressive experience in employee relations or complaint investigations. In-depth knowledge of federal and state employment laws, regulations, and HR best practices. Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills, capable of addressing sensitive and complex employee relations issues effectively. Demonstrated expertise in complex investigation practices, including assessment, documentation, and risk management. Must possess strong critical thinking skills, a growth mindset, and the ability to navigate ambiguity. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism and integrity. Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Strong capability to build trust-based relationships and influence stakeholders at all organizational levels. Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and recommend data-driven solutions. Ability to thrive in a complex and dynamic organizational environment. Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, demonstrating strong written communication skills. Alignment with McKinstry's core values. Proven agile leader and collaborator in dynamic environments and high-growth businesses. Ability to provide excellent customer service in response to inquiries from company leaders and HR colleagues. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.

The compensation range for this position is $99,270 - $169,900 per year; however, the base pay offered may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Compensation information is based on market location. A bonus may be included as part of the compensation package, along with a comprehensive range of medical, financial, and other benefits, depending on the position offered.
