Transit Safety Specialist

This role operates under the direct oversight of the Assistant Security Manager.
The individual in this position is tasked with safeguarding the life, safety, and property of the agents, assets, and patrons associated with Transform Transit Project, while ensuring the seamless operation of the transit agency.
Employees are expected to utilize sound judgment and experience to manage security incidents within the transit environment and to enforce established policies and protocols.
Key Responsibilities:

Primary Duties:
- Preventing criminal activities and security breaches at transit facilities, properties, or on transit vehicles and vessels.
- Protecting the assets and personnel of Transform Transit Project, as well as patrons within the transit setting.
- Collaborating closely with local law enforcement and emergency services in response to security or safety incidents.
- Responding to and managing active security situations or emergencies to ensure the continuity of transit operations.
- Performing additional duties as directed by the Security Manager.
Additional Responsibilities May Include:
- Ensuring all security matters are accurately recorded in daily logs or reports.
- Assisting with any identified or directed security-related issues.
- Enforcing company policies and procedures for personnel within the transit environment.
- Conducting proactive patrols of facilities or other assets on foot or via vehicle.
- Monitoring surveillance systems and access control mechanisms.
- Utilizing communication tools to coordinate with personnel or emergency services.
- Conducting investigations or special assignments to address security concerns.
- Carrying a weapon for de-escalation and defensive purposes.
- Preventing unauthorized access to company sites or services.
- Managing records in compliance with the organization's Records Management Policy and Procedures.
- Maintaining awareness of the Environmental Management System (EMS) of Transform Transit Project.
- Handling all job responsibilities in accordance with the company's Environmental Policy, relevant EMS Standard Operating Procedures, and Emergency Management Plan.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of security operations, safety practices in a business context, and enforcement procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff and the public, comprehend and adhere to standard operating procedures, perform duties professionally, and prepare required reports; capable of making independent, sound judgment decisions within established policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of state, local, and federal criminal statutes relevant to security work.- Familiarity with alarm, access control, and surveillance systems in transit facilities.
- Proficiency and certification in the use of firearms and other defensive tools as applicable.
- Capability to work under pressure and in stressful situations.
- Proficient in various computer applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets).
- Skilled in de-escalation techniques and incident management.
Software Proficiency:
- Proficiency in utilizing computer systems and relevant software applications is essential. Basic problem-solving skills related to software applications are expected. Software usage pertinent to job duties will be assessed.
Safety Responsibilities:
- Execute all job duties in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees, and the public from harm.
- Actively report unsafe conditions and hazards to supervisors or the Safety Department.
Training and Education Requirements:
- Current certification as an Armed Security Officer through the relevant state department, or the ability to obtain this certification promptly.
Experience Requirements:
- A minimum of two (2) years of law enforcement experience or five (5) years as a professional armed security officer. Must be at least 21 years of age. Military experience in security-related assignments is accepted in lieu of private security or law enforcement, provided there is an honorable discharge.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A two-year or four-year degree in Criminal Justice or a related field is preferred.
- Experience in Public Transportation Security is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Possession of a current Armed Security Officer registration card and firearms endorsement (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe).
Special Considerations:
- This position is classified as essential personnel.

- Employees are expected to perform physically during security incidents and should not have any physical limitations that would hinder their performance of assigned security duties.
Work Environment:
- The work environment characteristics described are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job.
- Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to inclement weather and unpredictable crisis situations.
