Position Overview: This role operates under the direct oversight of the Assistant Security Manager. The individual in this position is tasked with safeguarding the life, safety, and property of the agents, assets, and patrons associated with Transform Transit Project, while ensuring the operational integrity of the transit agency.

Key Responsibilities:

The duties outlined below are not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary:

  • Preventing criminal activities and security breaches at transit facilities, properties, or on transit vehicles and vessels.
  • Protecting the assets and personnel of Transform Transit Project, as well as the patrons within the transit environment.
  • Collaborating closely with local law enforcement and emergency services in response to security or safety incidents.
  • Addressing and resolving active security incidents or emergencies, ensuring the continuity of transit operations.
  • Executing additional responsibilities as assigned by the Security Manager.

Additional Duties May Include:

  • Documenting all security-related issues in daily logs or reports.
  • Assisting with any identified or directed security matters.
  • Enforcing policies and procedures relevant to personnel in the transit environment.
  • Conducting proactive patrols of facilities or other assets, either on foot or via vehicle.
  • Monitoring video surveillance and access control systems.
  • Utilizing communication tools to liaise with personnel or emergency services.
  • Conducting investigations or special assignments to address security concerns.
  • Carrying a weapon for de-escalation and defensive purposes.
  • Preventing unauthorized access to transit sites or services.
  • Managing records in compliance with the relevant Records Management Policy and Procedures.
  • Maintaining awareness of the agency's Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Adhering to the Environmental Policy, relevant EMS Standard Operating Procedures, and Emergency Management Plan.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of security operations, safety practices in a business context, and enforcement procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with staff and the public.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow standard operating procedures, perform duties professionally, and write investigative reports.
  • Knowledge of state, local, and federal criminal statutes pertinent to security work.
  • Familiarity with alarm, access control, and surveillance systems.
  • Proficiency in the use of firearms and other defensive tools.
  • Capability to perform under pressure and in stressful situations.
  • Competence in various computer applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets).
  • Expertise in de-escalation techniques and incident management.

Software Proficiency:

Proficiency in utilizing computer systems and relevant software applications is crucial for performing assigned tasks effectively. Basic problem-solving skills related to software applications are expected.

Safety Responsibilities:

All job duties must be performed safely to protect oneself, colleagues, and the public from injury. Employees are encouraged to promote safety awareness and report unsafe conditions to their supervisors.

Training and Education Requirements:

  • Current certification as an Armed Security Officer through the appropriate regulatory body, or the ability to obtain this certification promptly.
  • Current Firearms Endorsement registration, or the ability to secure this certification swiftly.

Experience Requirements:

  • Two years of law enforcement experience or five years as a professional armed security officer.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age. Military experience in security-related assignments is acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two-Year or Four-Year degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.
  • Experience in Public Transportation Security is advantageous.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Current Armed Security Officer Registration and Firearms Endorsement (or ability to obtain).
