Position Overview:
The Intake Specialist plays a crucial role in managing the referral intake process effectively. This position requires a skilled individual capable of multitasking and utilizing exceptional communication abilities to ensure patients have the necessary insurance or payer coverage for the requested infusion services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage promptly with referral sources, including clinical liaisons and discharge planners, to discuss patient insurance benefits and coverage for requested services.
  • Communicate effectively with insurance providers, agency personnel, patients, and their families regarding the treatment plans proposed for safe patient discharge.
  • Secure all required authorizations from insurance providers and accurately document this information within the KPH Healthcare Services system.
  • Notify the healthcare team once referrals are ready for service.
  • Participate in the Patient Referral Huddle Process to assess the status of pending referrals.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations concerning patient information.
  • Foster and sustain positive relationships with both internal and external staff.
  • Assist referral sources in arranging any necessary medical supplies or nursing services for patient transitions.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Account Executives, and Pharmacy Staff on educational programs related to insurance plans.
  • Complete all mandatory training programs as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Educational Background:
High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Preferred Experience:
  • At least one year of experience in intake processes or related training; or a combination of education and experience in the home healthcare sector.
  • Basic understanding of the insurance approval and authorization processes.

Employment Conditions:
  • Drug testing and ongoing monitoring for exclusions and sanctions.

Required Training:
  • HIPAA Privacy & Security Course
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Course

  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong customer service skills.
  • Effective communication abilities, both internally and externally, via phone and email.
  • Proficient in PC skills, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and creatively solve complex problems.
