Position Overview:
The Lead Student Information System (SIS) Engineer is essential in the design, development, execution, and upkeep of SIS solutions. Your objective is to facilitate significant strategic and operational initiatives by ensuring that the requirements of end-users for SIS solutions are fulfilled. As a leader of project teams, you will work closely with technical teams and business stakeholders. The Lead SIS Engineer adeptly navigates the complex interplay of technology and business insights, merging technical proficiency with business-oriented skills to guarantee the smooth daily operation of the SIS platform. Additionally, the Lead SIS Engineer will engage in Architecture and Vision sessions to help shape the roadmap, features, and capabilities necessary for the organization to meet its business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Technical Solutions: Direct a team to conceptualize, develop, and sustain technical solutions that address business requirements utilizing workflows, SQL, SSRS, and custom programming.
  2. Issue Resolution: Collaborate with business partners to comprehend and resolve business challenges efficiently. Lead the resolution process to completion with appropriate root cause analysis, ensuring that the solution effectively addresses the issue.
  3. Technical Architecture: Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure that any new solutions are architected following best practices, minimizing technical debt, and exploring all integration possibilities with other systems.
  4. Stakeholder Communication: Maintain clear communication with stakeholders, including customer support for existing tools and integrations with other vendor solutions.
  5. Configuration Management: Actively participate in and rigorously validate the configuration of business rules, new programs/courses, financial aid, and user permissions.
  6. Documentation: Develop comprehensive documentation for new processes and technical solutions, ensuring it includes architectural documentation and details for any integrations involved.
  7. Vendor Management: Oversee vendor communications and cultivate strong partnerships with third-party partners related to the SIS platform and applications that integrate with it.
  8. Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems configuration, analysis, and solutions development.
  • 5+ years of experience in educational technology, preferably in higher education.
  • 5+ years of experience across various functional areas such as Academics, Marketing, Advising, Finance, etc.
  • 5+ years of experience with ERP/SIS systems, particularly Anthology Student.
  • Familiarity with web services APIs.
  • Proficiency in MSSQL.
  • Experience with SSRS.
  • Knowledge/Experience with cloud services such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
  • Skills: sound judgment/decision-making, influencing, organization, adaptability, service orientation, interpersonal skills, leadership, and teamwork.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
  • Supportive of a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Basic computer literacy to effectively navigate and utilize the technology required for the role.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Any advanced degree or equivalent work experience, especially in an IT-related field.
  • 8+ years of experience and/or strong or advanced proficiency in any of the above required skills.
  • LMS experience with Brightspace/D2L, particularly from an integrations perspective.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Microsoft Teams.
  • Other skills or abilities: business acumen, cost consciousness, integrity/respect, strategic thinking, follow-through, vision, and complex problem-solving.
Compliance:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and adheres to, all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations, including those prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, state regulations, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicates compliance requirements to other staff as appropriate and promptly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.
