The Athletic Performance Specialist is tasked with the creation and execution of tailored sports performance training programs for athletes across various levels, including youth, junior high, high school, collegiate, adult, and elite.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement, assess, and refine sports performance training programs within educational institutions, at St. Luke's Fitness and Sports Performance centers, and at external locations as required, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment in accordance with Sports Medicine and SLFSP standards.
  • Conduct assessments of human performance and analyze results to inform effective program design, emphasizing proper exercise techniques.
  • Collaborate with sports medicine professionals and other service providers to establish injury prevention, rehabilitation, and reconditioning strategies, adjusting plans based on individual injury status or risk factors.
  • Maintain a professional and organized training environment for individuals and groups, effectively communicating the rationale behind training plans and demonstrating coaching techniques.
  • Ensure that the training space and equipment are orderly, clean, and well-maintained.
  • Recognize medical emergencies during training sessions and efficiently implement emergency action protocols.
  • Prepare and deliver educational sessions for individuals and groups on various topics related to sports performance, including strength training, conditioning, recovery, injury prevention, and nutrition.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through departmental training and external conferences or symposiums.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess the physical capability to perform the demanding activities associated with leading sports performance programs. Effective communication skills are essential, whether in-person, via email, over the phone, or through virtual meetings. Proficiency in using a computer keyboard is required, and the ability to stand for extended periods is necessary.

EDUCATION:

A Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, Kinesiology, Health and Physical Education, Biology, Athletic Training, or a closely related field is required. Preferred certifications include National Strength and Conditioning Association - Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), American College of Sports Medicine Health Fitness Specialist Certification (HFS), or National Academy of Sports Medicine Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES). BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers (CPR and AED) is mandatory.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Completion of an internship with a recognized sports performance or fitness program is required. One to two years of experience in training sports performance athletes and fitness clients is preferred.

A valid driver's license is required, and the ability to drive without restrictions is necessary.
