The San Francisco office of SmithGroup is in search of a Renewable Energy Specialist.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop conceptual and detailed designs for renewable energy systems targeting the commercial and industrial sectors, including solar photovoltaics (PV), microgrids, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
  • Conduct solar and battery analyses using software such as HelioScope, PVsyst, HOMER, SAM, or other relevant tools.
  • Create solar and battery layouts utilizing Revit or AutoCAD, with a willingness to learn Revit.
  • Assist in the completion of utility interconnection applications for new installations as necessary.
  • Perform due diligence tasks, including reviewing engineering designs and drawings from other sources, conducting energy yield assessments, analyzing microgrid and battery feasibility, and preparing necessary documentation for renewable energy system integration.
  • Ensure compliance with codes by designing, calculating, and selecting appropriate PV and BESS equipment and products.
  • Support field investigations through site assessments, field measurements, and data collection.
  • Review Requests for Information (RFI), oversee construction observations, and provide support for renewable energy systems during construction and client coordination.
  • Draft Energy Conservation Measure (ECM) descriptions for renewable energy systems to be included in proposals, and present these proposals to clients during oral interviews when required.
  • Guarantee a high-quality output, obtain QA/QC reviews, and adhere to all quality assurance procedures.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related energy/engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in renewable or traditional building-scale energy projects.
  • EIT certification with the potential to obtain PE preferred.
  • Experience in modeling solar and battery performance using HelioScope, PVSyst, HOMER, SAM, or similar software.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit.
  • Familiarity with relevant building codes, including the National Electrical Code.
  • Strong creative problem-solving skills, excellent verbal and written communication abilities, and the capacity to prepare detailed reports, business correspondence, and procedures for clients, project managers, and engineering teams.

SmithGroup offers a competitive compensation and benefits package tailored to meet the diverse needs of our staff. The anticipated salary range for this position is $81,000 to $97,000 annually. Additionally, employees in this role are eligible for a performance-based bonus annually.
