Position: Senior Azure Security Architect

Location: Hybrid Work Model

Project Overview

The objective of this role is to strengthen the cloud security framework of MDS (Micro-Data Systems) by architecting, implementing, and refining security measures within the Microsoft Azure environment. The Senior Azure Security Architect will prioritize the alignment of cloud security initiatives with industry standards, compliance mandates, and organizational goals. This role also encompasses the training of MDS staff on Azure security best practices, tools, and methodologies, alongside comprehensive documentation of all undertaken tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Security Evaluation and Strategy Formulation

  • Current State Review: Perform an extensive security evaluation of the current Azure setup, focusing on identity and access management, network security, data safeguarding, and monitoring.
  • Risk Identification: Detect potential security threats, vulnerabilities, and deficiencies in the existing configuration.
  • Security Strategy Creation: Formulate a cloud security strategy that aligns with MDS's business objectives and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).

Security Architecture Development

  • Architecture Design: Create a scalable and resilient security architecture for the Azure platform, encompassing identity management, network segmentation, data encryption, and logging/monitoring solutions.
  • Security Measures: Define and implement security measures that address identified risks, utilizing Azure-specific security services such as Azure Security Center, Azure Policy, Azure Blueprints, and Azure Sentinel.
  • Integration Strategy: Develop a strategy for integrating security tools and technologies, ensuring smooth interaction with existing on-premises and cloud resources.

Implementation and Configuration

  • Azure Security Setup: Configure and deploy security features and tools within Azure, including Azure Active Directory (AAD), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Azure Key Vault, and Network Security Groups (NSGs).
  • Automation and DevSecOps: Implement automation scripts and templates (e.g., ARM templates, Terraform) for security configurations and integrations.
  • Incident Response Planning: Design and implement an incident response strategy within Azure, including the configuration of alerts, logging, and automated responses to security incidents.

Compliance and Governance

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the Azure environment complies with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.g., CIS Benchmarks, NIST).
  • Governance Structure: Establish a governance structure for ongoing compliance monitoring, reporting, and policy enforcement using Azure Policy and Azure Blueprints.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of the security architecture, configurations, and governance processes.

Training and Knowledge Transfer

  • Staff Development Program: Develop and implement a training program tailored to the needs of MDS staff, which will include:
  • Azure Security Basics: Training on fundamental Azure security tools, best practices, and common configurations.
  • Advanced Security Concepts: In-depth sessions on identity management, threat protection, compliance, and monitoring within Azure.
  • Practical Workshops: Hands-on workshops where staff will configure and manage security tools within the Azure environment under expert guidance.
  • Training Resources: Provide comprehensive training materials, including presentations, manuals, and video tutorials for MDS staff to reference post-engagement.
  • Documentation Transfer: Deliver detailed documentation on all work completed, including architecture designs, configurations, policies, and processes, ensuring that MDS staff can independently maintain and enhance the implemented solutions.
