Your Role

The Developer and Employee Experience team is tasked with the development of standardization and automation frameworks that empower our collaborating IT teams to construct, deploy, and oversee their systems.

We are paving the way for our transition to the Cloud and ensuring that we are steering the shift towards a more contemporary DevOps operational model.

The Senior Cloud Solutions Architect will report to the Vice President of Developer & Employee Experience.

In this capacity, you will spearhead the establishment and upkeep of enterprise technology capabilities and frameworks to facilitate our teams' migration to the Cloud.

You will also formulate integrated roadmaps that direct our strategic investments to bolster our enterprise initiatives for Blue Shield of California.

Your Work

In this position, you will:
  • Foster a culture of psychological safety, allowing teams to explore and learn new technological domains.
  • Tackle technical challenges of the highest magnitude and complexity for the entire organization.
  • Collaborate with and guide other architects and engineers to establish and document standards and frameworks that can be utilized for future reference, while actively seeking opportunities to leverage industry solutions for new business offerings and services.
  • Drive innovation throughout engineering with a readiness to experiment and boldly address problems of significant complexity and scope.
  • Exert substantial influence over Blue Shield of California's long-term objectives and execution.
  • Ensure that our standards for style, maintainability, and best practices are tailored to the unique challenges of scale and diversity of use represented by Blue Shield of California.
  • Facilitate considerable enhancements for Blue Shield of California's usability, development ease, and technical efficiency through effective collaboration and extensive technical contributions.
  • Provide mentorship for engineers, particularly focusing on Staff+ engineers, to assist them in expanding their responsibilities.
  • Share expertise across the entire organization.
  • Deliver extremely impactful features and enhancements with minimal guidance and support from other organizational members.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leaders and business stakeholders in the formulation of strategic portfolio or business unit plans.
  • Offer comprehensive analytical insights to ensure transformation costs, impacts, and values are accurately understood, estimated, and managed across people, processes, and technology.
  • Engage with customers, vendors, industry consultants, and senior company leadership to continuously learn and identify opportunities to advance our business strategy.
  • Define the technology roadmap and architecture to expedite cloud initiatives.
  • Possess an understanding of business process design methodologies and tools, which is advantageous.
  • Exhibit strong situational analysis and decision-making capabilities.
  • Adapt communications to suit the C-suite level.
Your Knowledge and Experience

A Master's degree is preferred; a minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.

12+ years of relevant business and IT experience.

3+ years of experience in the healthcare sector is desirable.

5+ years of experience in architectural practice.

An expert engineer who advocates for and continuously advances the architecture operating model, governance, processes, policies, standards, and framework for the Developer and Employee Experience capability.

Creates, refines, and implements repeatable architecture frameworks and processes to enable complex cross-functional initiatives related to major business initiatives.

Provides vision and strategic direction for one or more architecture domains (business, information, application, and technology).

Develops and maintains strategies and solutions for the enterprise in collaboration with executive leadership across the business and IT.

Possesses excellent interpersonal skills necessary to convey the value of a robust enterprise architecture function to critical business stakeholders.

Advanced knowledge and experience with cloud technologies, defining technology standards and implementation roadmaps for one or more of the following: Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services.

Demonstrated proficiency in understanding enterprise architecture lifecycle methodologies.
