ROLE OVERVIEW

As Binti's inaugural Lead Application Security Architect, you will report directly to our VP of Engineering and play a pivotal role in safeguarding the security and integrity of our software applications. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate potential security risks, implement best practices, and contribute to the establishment of secure coding standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct Security Evaluations: Execute comprehensive assessments of Binti's security posture, including regular security reviews, code audits, penetration testing, and threat modeling to uphold the highest standards of application security.
  • Strategic Direction: Assist Binti in defining a clear course of action to achieve the desired security posture. This involves scoping and prioritizing tasks, assessing levels of investment and risk appropriate to our scale and capacity, and building relationships across teams to effectively communicate and advocate for these objectives.
  • Incident Response: Respond swiftly to security incidents, collaborate with on-call engineers, and provide thorough post-event analyses. Assess the relevance of emerging security concerns through risk evaluation and assessment (such as OWASP).
  • Enhance Security Architecture: Collaborate with engineering teams to identify, design, and implement technologies that bolster security automation throughout the software development lifecycle and cloud hosting environments.
  • Establish Security Standards: Lead initiatives to create and implement secure coding standards and best practices throughout the development lifecycle, including automating processes to ensure comprehensive coverage.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Stay informed about the latest security threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices, ensuring the integration of this knowledge into Binti's security strategies. Serve as the company's expert on application security, providing mentorship to development teams and fostering a scalable, security-conscious culture.

EXAMPLE PROJECTS

  • Review and implement security patches and hotfixes in production applications.
  • Streamline feedback of security recommendations for new products prior to their launch on the Binti platform.
  • Enhance the security of documents and files uploaded and downloaded on the platform.
  • Analyze, scope, and implement security improvements to better protect Personal Health Information and Personally Identifiable Information stored within the product.
  • Improve notification and escalation processes for security concerns raised by third parties (such as security researchers).
  • Integrate new and existing logging and alerting systems into centralized and/or decentralized Security Incident and Event Management (SIEM) platforms.
  • Assess the backlog of application-specific security tickets and provide remediation recommendations.
  • Support evidence collection for compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA.

WHAT WE VALUE IN YOU

  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated experience as an Application Security Engineer or in a comparable role. Strong technical foundation with experience in full-stack development, cloud computing, and scalable architecture. Proficiency in one or more OOP coding languages (Ruby, Python, Java, etc.) is highly preferred.
