Department Overview

The Information Technology (IT) division at PG&E is composed of various integrated departments that work together to deliver exceptional technology solutions.

The Data, Analytics & Insights Team within IT is tasked with collaborating with various business lines (e.g., Electric Operations, Gas Operations) to implement user-friendly data platforms and products for diverse user groups (e.g., asset strategists, inspectors, emergency operations). Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Technical Lead to join our dynamic and expanding team. Your main responsibility will be to provide technical guidance and mentorship across our Flink and Kafka real-time data platform and product engineering teams. You will oversee the technical design and execution of real-time event-driven use cases and facilitate technical feasibility discussions for our products while collaborating with other technical leaders, product owners, and development leads. Your role will involve exploring the limits of our platforms, offering solutions for technical challenges, and engaging in discussions within IT and various business lines. As a vital member of a dedicated group of engineers, product teams, and technical analysts, you will contribute to innovative, forward-thinking projects that will modernize essential infrastructure.

This position is hybrid, allowing work from a remote office and an assigned work location based on business requirements. The designated work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

PG&E is providing a salary range that reflects the company's good faith belief regarding potential compensation for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the job's locality. The actual salary offered will depend on various factors, including specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. This role is also eligible for PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

A reasonable salary range is:​

Bay Area Minimum: $132,000

Bay Area Maximum: $226,000

California Minimum: $125,000

California Maximum: $215,000

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee technical design and execution of Flink and Kafka event-driven use cases
  • Ensure adherence to best practices for performance optimization, security, and data governance
  • Develop outstanding big data products within a collaborative team where culture is fundamental to success
  • Mentor and guide the development team in a hands-on manner
  • Provide technical feasibility assessments while collaborating with Product Owners and Design teams to guide features and offer technical expertise
  • Define and address application non-functional requirements, and manage technical debt
  • Troubleshoot and optimize complex applications
  • Clearly communicate the vision and architecture to team members
  • Foster a productive working environment for development teams
  • Advocate for a culture of quality across the team
  • Collaborate with external teams, particularly security, to design, implement, and support scalable and efficient solutions
  • Develop best-in-class real-time analytics products with Flink and Kafka
  • Effectively communicate solutions to non-technical stakeholders
  • Adhere to an agile development methodology
  • Stay updated with the Flink and Kafka capabilities of Palantir Foundry releases , features, and best practices, and recommend enhancements to improve efficiency, performance, and scalability
  • Promote appropriate data modeling techniques to enable agile development and business use cases, particularly in integrating event-driven with batch data processing

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
  • 5 years of relevant work experience, including experience as a Technical Lead and intermediate to expert level development in Python and Java

Desired:

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • 10 years of experience in IT application development and architecture, with 7 years of project implementation experience and hands-on experience developing data products
  • Expertise in solution architecture disciplines, processes, concepts, and best practices
  • Direct experience building solutions in Flink and/or Kafka, including development of Java and/or Python Flink UDFs.
  • Familiarity with process improvement disciplines (e.g., Six Sigma) used in technology-supported business process implementations
  • Experience in process design, information modeling, and/or system solution architecture development with a project or portfolio focus in areas such as Cloud Architecture, Data Management, Security, Microservices, or Infrastructure technologies
  • Operational support experience for applications, systems, or infrastructure
  • Proven ability to guide design and engineering staff
  • Experience directing one or more architects and technical leads
  • 5 years of experience developing solution architectures for complex data platforms and products
  • 5 years of hands-on experience with multiple technologies and platforms, including integrations with ERP systems (e.g., SAP), Cloud technologies (e.g., AWS)
  • Solid understanding of architecture best practices and enterprise-scale solution development
  • Diverse technical background with an Enterprise System Solution mindset
  • Capable of providing oversight on rapid prototyping/POC efforts and large-scale enterprise-wide rollout planning
  • Experience collaborating with technology and business partners to develop secure and scalable solutions
  • Experience as an Agile/Technical Lead in an Agile environment
  • Background in developing solutions for data-driven applications
  • GIS experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of SAP and/or ESRI is a plus
  • Familiarity with Data Vault 2.0 modeling techniques is a plus
