Role Description:

The University of Saint Joseph is seeking qualified candidates to fill temporary adjunct faculty positions within the Office of Clinical Practice, part of the Education Department. Ideal candidates will possess teaching experience in Connecticut, hold relevant teaching certifications, and have experience supervising teacher candidates or in-service educators. The Education Department within the School of Arts, Sciences, Business, and Education requires candidates to have at least a Master’s degree in Education and an active teaching certificate.

We have openings for teaching the student teaching supervisory course, which will be conducted weekly in the evening. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the course, observing student teachers using remote supervision software, evaluating instructional practices based on departmental rubrics, providing constructive feedback, and coaching for improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and/or revise course syllabi
  • Prepare lectures, assignments, assessments, and other educational materials
  • Grade student submissions promptly
  • Offer constructive feedback to enhance academic and teaching success
  • Maintain regular office hours; adjunct faculty must be available for at least one additional hour weekly, either in-person or virtually, to support students
  • Participate in program and departmental meetings as needed
  • Demonstrate proficiency in current teaching methodologies for college-level courses; deliver clear and qualified instruction related to the course content
  • Utilize technology provided by USJ to enhance teaching, including Blackboard and TEAMS
  • Complete training in the CPAST assessment system; training materials will be provided by USJ
  • Attend all scheduled class sessions as outlined in the academic calendar
  • Submit mid-semester and final grades to the Registrar's Office within specified timeframes, and leave all course records with the department chair upon course completion
  • Foster positive relationships with students and faculty, promoting an environment conducive to student success at USJ

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated teaching experience in the field of Education
  • Preferred terminal degree in Education
  • Degrees must be from accredited institutions
  • Current, active Connecticut teaching certificate(s) required
  • Preferred current, active CT 092 and/or 093 certificate
  • Strong technology skills required
  • Experience with virtual teaching formats required
  • Experience with EdTPA preferred
  • Cultural competency to engage with diverse student and K-12 populations
  • Commitment to the mission of the University of Saint Joseph is essential

  • Professional demeanor and appearance; ability to positively engage with students, faculty, staff, and administration, representing the University with integrity

Compensation:

  • Adjunct rates per 3-credit course:
  • Non-Terminal Degree/0-6 Credits Experience = $3,000.00
  • Terminal Degree/0-6 Credits Experience = $3,200.00
  • Non-Terminal Degree/7+ Credits Experience = $3,400.00
  • Terminal Degree/7+ Credits Experience = $3,700.00
