Job Description:
The University of Saint Joseph invites qualified applicants to serve as temporary adjunct faculty within the Business Administration Department. Successful candidates should have teaching experience within the field of Sport Management and Esports. The Sport Management major in the School of Arts, Sciences, Business, and Education seeks qualified candidates with a minimum of a Masters in Sport Management.
We currently have an opening to teach the following course:
MGMT 110 – Introduction to Esports Management (3 Credits): The Introduction to Esports Management course investigates the full breadth of topics on the management and administration of esports and gaming across a variety of settings. The course highlights topics specific to esports, such as streaming, branding, esports careers, esports operations, and strategic planning, along with the cultural impact of esports. In addition, the course explores esports governance, leadership, leagues, esports event/facility management, and esports marketing. The growth of esports has been a dynamic development in the sport business and in our culture.
The course section will meet in person on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30PM-1:45PM starting in August 2024.
Compensation is $2900 to $3600 per class depending on experience and degree.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Develop and/or update a course syllabus
- Prepare lectures, projects, homework, assessments, and other student assignments
- Grade all student assignments in a timely manner. Provide appropriate feedback to students to promote academic success
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours; Adjuncts must be available a minimum of one additional hour per week, either in-person or virtually, to provide support to students
- Attend program/department meetings as requested
- Demonstrate knowledge of the current methods and practices for teaching college-level courses; present qualified and clear instruction related to the course subject
- Learn and utilize technology offered at USJ to facilitate teaching
- Meet all designated class periods in the semester as dictated by the academic calendar
- Submit mid-semester and final grades to the Registrar's Office within required timeframes, leave all course records with the department chairperson upon completion of the course
- Build a positive rapport with students and faculty and promote an environment of student success at USJ
Requirements:
- Master's degree or higher in Sport Management, Management, Business or a related field. Degrees must be from an accredited institution.
- Industry experience, a terminal degree, and/or prior college level teaching experience is strongly preferred
- Cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population.
- Commitment to the University of Saint Joseph mission
Additional Information:
Teaching assignments are part-time, on a semester basis only and are dependent on student enrollment and department need. All adjunct offers are contingent on sufficient enrollment. Regular attendance is an essential job function as it demonstrates dependability towards the performance of job duties.
Adjunct rates per 3-credit course:
- Non-Terminal Degree/0-6 Credits Experience = $2,900.00
- Terminal Degree/0-6 Credits Experience = $3,100.00
- Non-Terminal Degree/7+Credits Experience = $3,300.00
- Terminal Degree/7+ Credits Experience = $3,600.0
