At Colliers Engineering & Design, we are seeking a talented Water Discipline Engineer to join our team in Buffalo, NY. As a key member of our Water group, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including steel and concrete structures, site and earthwork, and roadway and utility projects.

Our Water Discipline is growing, and we have exciting projects to engage motivated engineers who enjoy working on a variety of projects. Our projects are unique designs and provide a diverse array of interesting work to keep our staff challenged and engaged.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering calculations and create construction cost estimates
  • Steel, Concrete, Prestressed Concrete, Timber design
  • Work with senior engineers to create project designs for structures on or near the water (locks, dams, water control gates, moorings, etc.)
  • Perform QA/QC by verifying design methodology, calculations, outcomes, etc.
  • Interpret and understand drawings from multiple disciplines for specific projects and respond to requests for information.
  • Conduct field inspections and surveys in support of design and construction efforts investigate variables, obtain measurements, photographs, videos, and take detailed notes. Write reports documenting observations.
  • Research and apply code provisions to design.
  • Research design alternatives and document findings for project engineer/manager.
  • Evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures, using own judgement to make adaptations and modifications to existing designs.
  • Assist Project Engineers and leaders as needed in the creation of proposals, client information, and designs.
  • Develop drawings by modifying or replicating a prior project, applying changes and corrections from redlined drawings, and/or creating drawings from sketches of others or from own design.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
  • EIT candidates preferred
  • Interest in Structural Engineering projects especially on or near the water; prior experience preferred but not required
  • CAD (AutoCAD, MicroStation) skills are a plus
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Desire to work collaboratively in a team environment
