Position Overview:

Colliers Engineering & Design is excited to announce an opportunity for a Junior Structural Engineer to join our expanding Water group. This role is ideal for motivated individuals eager to engage in a variety of projects that encompass both steel and concrete designs, as well as site and earthwork considerations. Our team is involved in multifaceted projects that integrate roadway, structural, utility, and environmental elements, ensuring a dynamic work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct engineering calculations and prepare construction cost estimates.
  • Design structures using materials such as steel, concrete, prestressed concrete, and timber.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to develop project designs for structures associated with water bodies, including locks, dams, and water control systems.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control by verifying design methodologies and outcomes.
  • Interpret and analyze drawings from various disciplines and respond to information requests.
  • Execute field inspections and surveys to support design and construction activities, documenting findings through detailed reports.
  • Research and apply relevant code provisions to engineering designs.
  • Investigate design alternatives and present findings to project engineers or managers.
  • Utilize standard engineering techniques and procedures, making necessary adaptations to existing designs.
  • Assist project engineers and leadership in the preparation of proposals and client communications.
  • Create and modify engineering drawings based on previous projects or sketches.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Preference for candidates with EIT certification.
  • Genuine interest in structural engineering projects, particularly those involving water; prior experience is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation) is advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Desire to work collaboratively within a team setting.
