Location: Buffalo, NY
RCM Engineering Group is seeking a skilled Structural Design Engineer to join our dynamic team in the Buffalo, NY area.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive Civil and Structural design tasks, including the modeling and engineering of steel frameworks, concrete bases, reinforcement steel, road systems, grading, and drainage solutions.
  • Collaborate effectively with various disciplines such as process, piping, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation as needed.
  • Assist the lead Structural Engineer in establishing timelines for deliverables and defining the scope of work.
  • Support the estimation process for Civil and Structural design projects, ensuring tasks are completed within budgetary constraints.
  • Independently generate 3D models, schematics, and layouts from preliminary sketches with minimal oversight.
  • Conduct site assessments within facilities to collect data, evaluate site conditions, confirm designs, and provide on-site support during construction or commissioning phases.
  • Utilize laser scanning technology, process scan data, and perform work in a 3D environment, leveraging scanned data to deliver effective designs for existing and brownfield projects.
  • Offer mentorship, training, and oversight for junior civil and structural designers and drafters.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the modeling and design of steel structures, concrete foundations, reinforcement steel, road systems, grading, and drainage.
  • Proficiency in creating models and drawings using Autodesk Plant Design Suite (including AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Navisworks); experience with Advance Steel is advantageous.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail with a commitment to producing accurate, organized, and well-structured models and drawings.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites or project locations as necessary.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
Education:
  • Associate's degree in CAD Drafting and Design Technology or equivalent professional experience.
