Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a motivated Junior Structural Engineer to join our expanding Water group. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects that include steel and concrete structures, as well as site and earthwork initiatives. Our team is involved in a variety of infrastructure projects that encompass roadway, structural, utility, and environmental considerations.
As part of our Water team, you will have the chance to engage in unique design projects that will challenge and enhance your engineering skills. Your work may involve designing water control structures, upgrading hydropower facilities, and rehabilitating lock systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct engineering calculations and prepare construction cost estimates.
- Engage in design work involving Steel, Concrete, Prestressed Concrete, and Timber.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to develop project designs for structures associated with water environments.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control by verifying design methodologies and outcomes.
- Interpret and analyze drawings from various disciplines, responding to information requests as needed.
- Conduct field inspections and surveys to support design and construction efforts, documenting observations thoroughly.
- Research and apply relevant code provisions to engineering designs.
- Explore design alternatives and document findings for project engineers and managers.
- Utilize standard engineering techniques and procedures, adapting existing designs as necessary.
- Assist project engineers in the preparation of proposals and client communications.
- Create detailed drawings by modifying existing projects or developing new designs based on sketches.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Preference for candidates with EIT certification.
- Interest in Structural Engineering, particularly projects related to water environments; prior experience is a plus but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation) is advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team setting.
