Position Overview

As a key contributor to our sustainability initiatives, you will oversee the development and implementation of our waste management strategy.

The Sustainability Operations Leader is tasked with managing environmental data, ensuring the integrity of our Environmental Management System, and preparing the organization for upcoming mandatory ESG disclosures while enhancing internal reporting standards.

This role will also involve collaboration with the Sustainability team to identify innovative opportunities aimed at minimizing landfill waste and promoting the use of recyclable materials across our operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee existing waste management contracts and collaborate with procurement to optimize commercial agreements.
  • Design and implement training programs for all teams on effective waste and recycling practices.
  • Initiate and support new waste reduction initiatives.
  • Manage operational projects from inception to completion.
  • Prepare and execute transition plans for operational changes.
  • Demonstrate cost savings through effective waste separation and diversion strategies.
  • Enhance resource recovery service arrangements for efficient operations.
  • Facilitate the launch of new waste management initiatives that encourage behavioral change.
  • Analyze waste disposal costs and develop tracking mechanisms for waste diversion.
  • Monitor contractor performance and liaise with stakeholders to ensure service quality.
  • Advise on sustainability best practices regarding fixtures and fittings.
  • Develop a comprehensive sustainability strategy and coordinate project activities.
  • Provide regular updates on project progress to stakeholders.
  • Assist in resolving billing issues and generate performance reports to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental standards in new waste management arrangements.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental science, sustainability, or engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in waste management or environmental consulting.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in sustainability or circular economy management.
  • A strong understanding of the waste and recycling industry.
  • Proven track record in implementing waste reduction strategies.
  • Project management expertise, particularly in documentation and implementation.
  • Financial analysis capabilities, especially in cost evaluation.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
