Position Overview

We are in search of a motivated Geotechnical Project Engineer to become a vital part of our expanding team. In this role, you will contribute significantly to the development of our premier geohazard solutions.


As a key member of the Design Engineering Team, you will collaborate with engineering professionals, Project Development Engineers, and company leadership to facilitate the planning, design, and execution of geotechnical and geohazard mitigation projects.

Key Responsibilities

Core Job Functions

  • Collaborate closely with the Engineering Team and Project Development Engineers to devise cost-effective solutions and designs for complex geohazard challenges (including slope stability, rockfall, ground improvement, and foundation issues).
  • Conduct site assessments and slope investigations in challenging terrains, utilizing high rope access and rappelling techniques as necessary.
  • Execute engineering calculations and analyses, including slope stability modeling, rockfall simulations, and geotechnical assessments, while preparing comprehensive engineering documentation.
  • Review plans and specifications critically, and develop project take-offs and construction cost estimates.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals and bids.
  • Engage with management and engineering teams to implement strategic plans and recommendations.
  • Fulfill field engineering duties, including construction support, quality assurance, quality control testing, and documentation of as-built conditions.
  • Identify and resolve operational challenges, adjusting engineering solutions for ongoing and future projects as necessary.
  • Maintain clear communication with the Project Manager and Engineering Team regarding design modifications and approvals.
  • Liaise with other departments to discuss initial designs, modifications, and process enhancements.
  • Regularly interact with clients to ensure project alignment and satisfaction.
  • Represent GSI at industry events and engineering conferences, delivering technical presentations.
  • Contribute to internal research and development initiatives.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (Master's degree preferred) with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and AutoCAD; familiarity with Rocscience software suite (Geostudio or similar limit equilibrium software) is advantageous.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required; Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, which may be physically demanding.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% as required.
  • Capable of performing administrative tasks from a vehicle, home office, or field location.

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid work model with in-office days scheduled mid-week, allowing for remote work at the beginning and end of the week.
  • Travel to construction sites is required, up to 25% of the time.
