Position Title: Environmental Engineering Specialist

Location: Remote

Employment Status: Full-Time

Classification: Exempt

Salary Range: $85,000 - $115,000 per year (The anticipated starting salary is based on the posted requirements for this position. The offered salary will be based upon the selected applicant's education, training, and experience.)

RSI is seeking a qualified Environmental Engineer or Scientist responsible for executing technical scopes related to remediation and treatment systems at a designated site. This role involves overseeing project and programmatic scopes and conducting technical reviews of key reports, all under limited supervision.

This position may require occasional travel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead surface-water monitoring initiatives at the designated site, including planning, design, installation, programming, and maintenance of automated monitoring networks utilizing field instrumentation and telemetry systems to gather reliable environmental data ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Oversee environmental data acquisition, compilation, evaluation, reporting, and presentation, including extensive peer review of analyses and calculations performed by team members.
  • Manage a retention pond system comprising multiple earthen dams, ensuring compliance with dam safety and water rights regulations through regular inspection, maintenance, and operational reporting.
  • Provide engineering support for the design, operation, and maintenance of active groundwater treatment systems.
  • Facilitate technical support for remedy decision-making and programmatic strategy through collaboration with stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
  • Conduct Subject Matter Expert reviews of quarterly and annual reports, adhering to established environmental data use policies.
  • Assist the Site Lead in managing project scope, schedule, and budget through the development of an Earned Value Management System (EVMS) baseline and monthly financial reporting.
  • Support project implementation via established safety and management systems.
  • Conduct management assessments and support quality assurance through internal and external audits, addressing any issues as necessary.
  • Contribute to functional organizations for contract deliverables as required.
  • Maintain current training and certifications.
  • Manage records in accordance with information management protocols.
  • Coordinate with the Geosciences Manager to ensure process redundancy.
  • Engage with stakeholders through presentations and meetings as needed.
  • Provide technical input for communications with regulatory bodies and stakeholders.
  • Mentor and train junior staff members.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Hydrology, Environmental Sciences, or Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.

Required Skills and Competencies:
  • Technical expertise in site characterization, modeling, reporting, and implementation of site remedies, including the operation and maintenance of treatment and monitoring systems.
  • Strong mathematical and statistical skills for data evaluation and reporting using various software tools.
  • Practical skills with mechanical and electrical systems are preferred.
  • Proficient in safety and management system requirements.
  • Experience managing small-scale construction and maintenance projects, including oversight of subcontractors and vendors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extensive technical knowledge within the area of responsibility.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with GIS and telemetry programming is a plus.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Valid Driver's License
Desired Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer, Professional Geologist, or similar certification.
  • A background in Environmental Sciences with knowledge of chemical engineering principles is preferred.
Physical Requirements:

Medium: The role involves moving objects by exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or an above-negligible amount and up to 10 pounds constantly.
