Job Summary

The State of Massachusetts is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreational Therapist I to join our team at the Chelsea Veterans Home. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in planning and organizing recreational activities for our veteran residents, promoting their physical, emotional, and social well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement therapeutic recreation programs tailored to the needs and abilities of our veteran residents.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless delivery of care and services.
  • Provide individual and group recreational activities, including arts and crafts, music, and outdoor events.
  • Assist with record-keeping and accounting of activity expenditures.
  • Report observations and insights to supervisors as part of the interdisciplinary process.
Requirements
  • At least two years of experience in planning, organizing, and conducting therapeutic recreation services in a recognized public or private agency.
  • Ability to work with adult and geriatric populations, including those with varying levels of impairment.
  • Knowledge of regulations, policies, and procedures related to activity programs.
  • Ability to work with volunteers, veterans, and civic organizations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, recreation education, creative arts therapy, or therapeutic recreation.
  • Experience working with volunteers and community organizations.
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts regulations and policies related to activity programs.
