Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Recreation Therapist III to join our team at the state-operated Veterans Home at Chelsea. As a Recreation Therapist III, you will play a vital role in developing and implementing therapeutic activities that promote social skills, recreation, and well-being for our veteran residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with staff to develop individualized and group therapeutic activities that foster social skills and recreation.
  • Plan and organize recreational, social, and instructional activities for residents based on their needs and interests.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to ensure seamless care and support for our residents.
  • Prepare reports and summaries of recreational activities and their outcomes.
  • Motivate residents to participate in recreation activities, adapting to their varying levels of impairment.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of motivational and reinforcement techniques to promote engagement and participation.
  • Understanding of therapeutic recreation principles and techniques to create a supportive environment.
  • Awareness of factors, trends, and challenges in providing recreation services to special client groups, such as the mentally or physically handicapped, aged, etc.
  • Knowledge of adapted physical education principles and techniques to accommodate diverse needs.
  • Understanding of materials and equipment used in recreational activities and their applications.
  • Knowledge of counseling methods and techniques to support therapeutic activities.
Requirements
  • Minimum of four years of experience in planning, organizing, and conducting therapeutic services in a recognized public or private agency.
  • At least two years of experience in a professional capacity, with one year in a supervisory role.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
