Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Recreation Therapist Supervisor to join our team at the state-operated Veterans Home at Chelsea. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in developing and implementing therapeutic recreation programs for our veteran residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with staff to develop individual and group therapeutic activities that promote social skills and well-being.
  • Plan and organize recreational, social, and instructional activities that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our residents.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to ensure seamless coordination of care and services.
  • Prepare reports and summaries of recreational activities, highlighting outcomes and areas for improvement.
  • Motivate residents to participate in recreation activities, adapting to their varying levels of impairment.
  • Complete performance reviews for direct reporting staff, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of motivational and reinforcement techniques to promote resident engagement.
  • Understanding of therapeutic recreation principles and practices, including adapted physical education.
  • Awareness of laws, regulations, and guidelines governing recreation services, particularly in a healthcare setting.
  • Ability to interact with residents who may be under physical or emotional stress.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the capacity to establish rapport with diverse individuals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of first aid techniques and basic life support.
  • Experience in curriculum development for therapeutic recreation activities.
  • Ability to plan and conduct training sessions for staff.
