Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is seeking a skilled Recreational Therapist I to join our team at the Veterans Home at Chelsea. As a member of our staff, you will play a vital role in planning and organizing recreational activities for our veteran residents, promoting their physical, emotional, and social well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement therapeutic recreation programs tailored to the needs and abilities of our veteran residents.
  • Maintain accurate records of patient participation and activity attendance.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless delivery of care and services.
  • Provide one-on-one visits and group activities, promoting socialization and community engagement.
  • Assist with purchasing and inventory management of activity supplies and materials.
  • Work with family members, veterans, and civic organizations to enhance community partnerships and engagement.
  • Report and discuss observations of patient participation to supervisors as part of the interdisciplinary process.
  • Maintain current CPR certification and adhere to all safety protocols.
  • Transport patients to activities while ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
Requirements
  • At least two years of experience in planning, organizing, and conducting therapeutic recreation services in a recognized public or private agency.
  • Ability to work with adult and geriatric populations, including those with varying levels of impairment.
  • Knowledge of regulations, policies, and procedures related to activity programs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers, veterans, and civic organizations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, recreation education, creative arts therapy, or therapeutic recreation.
  • Experience working in a long-term care setting, preferably with veterans.
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts regulations and policies related to activity programs.
