Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) Educator is accountable for the daily operations and oversight of essential knowledge areas within the classroom, reporting directly to the Head of Primary Years.

Core Objectives:

The PYP Educator aims to deliver engaging and enriching educational experiences, with the philosophy and mission of the International Baccalaureate (IB) at the forefront of student learning. Educators are expected to design and execute a curriculum that nurtures the holistic development of each student, emphasizing the Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning. Prioritizing hands-on, project-based learning is essential for fostering student curiosity and success. Additionally, educators are encouraged to cultivate strong connections with students and families, becoming integral members of the Creation Kids Village community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a grade-level classroom, overseeing all facets of student growth and classroom dynamics.
  • Design stimulating curricula to enhance educational experiences for students.
  • Create a supportive and nurturing learning environment.
  • Collaborate within a Professional Learning Community (PLC) to fulfill IB standards.
  • Differentiate instruction to cater to the diverse needs of students.
  • Engage with parents/guardians to address student requirements.
  • Promote a positive work atmosphere for oneself and colleagues.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development initiatives.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and PLC gatherings.
  • Communicate classroom expectations, both academic and behavioral, consistently with parents and students.
  • Facilitate daily experiential, project-based learning utilizing various media and environments.
  • Integrate CREATION Health principles into daily lessons.
  • Employ Conscious Discipline strategies for effective classroom management.
  • Build relationships with parents to encourage their involvement in their child's education, including regular classroom updates, parent conferences, and necessary meetings.
  • Implement report cards, portfolios, grading systems, and character-based assessments.
  • Continuously inform parents about student goals, progress, and areas for improvement, including resource suggestions and enrichment opportunities beyond the classroom.

International Baccalaureate Implementation:

  • Review IB grade-specific documents prior to teaching each unit.
  • Achieve proficiency in integrating Approaches to Learning (ATL), Approaches to Teaching (ATT), Learner Profile, Central Ideas, and Themes into instruction.
  • Actively engage in training related to best practices.
  • Utilize Creation Kids Village IB Templates as a foundation for developing Weekly Lesson Plans while incorporating other approved resources.
  • Track and monitor student progress using Toddle against grade-specific standards through the Learning Target Checklist.
  • Participate in PLCs to foster a transdisciplinary approach to instruction and integrate it into project-based learning.
  • Complete reflection surveys and interviews.

Holistic Student Development:

  • Integrate with Creation Kids Village's classroom management, instructional strategies, and routines.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and developmentally appropriate classroom that ensures a safe and enjoyable learning environment.
  • Observe, evaluate, document, and report on each student's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Identify students exhibiting signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related issues and report these to the lead teacher, Dean, or Head of School.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Academics to discuss each student's progress and needs, establishing priorities and suggesting strategies to enhance learning and development.
  • Lead or participate in extracurricular clubs, activities, or organizations as determined by the educator and Head of Academics.

Collaborative School Environment:

  • Work with the administrative team to create an integrated educational experience throughout Creation Kids Village.
  • Establish community partnerships to enrich classroom activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience in Elementary School.
  • Prior experience teaching within the IB framework.
  • Proven reliability in previous roles.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies.
  • Flexibility in classroom settings and with colleagues.

Physical Requirements:

Applicants must possess the ability to hear conversational speech, with or without a hearing aid, see and read standard print with or without corrective lenses, communicate effectively under normal circumstances, lift and carry children and materials weighing up to 50 pounds, and utilize limbs with or without assistive devices to perform job functions, including emergency evacuations.
