The Primary Years Programme (PYP) Educator plays a crucial role in the educational journey of students, ensuring a nurturing and engaging learning environment. This position reports directly to the Head of Primary Years and is essential for managing key academic areas within the classroom.
Core Responsibilities:
The PYP Educator is dedicated to delivering enriching and stimulating educational experiences that align with the philosophy and mission of the International Baccalaureate (IB). The focus is on fostering holistic student development, emphasizing the Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning. The educator will prioritize hands-on, project-based learning to ignite student curiosity and drive achievement. Building strong relationships with students and families is vital, contributing to the community at Creation Kids Village. Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing a grade-level classroom, focusing on all aspects of student growth and classroom dynamics.
- Designing engaging curricula to enhance student learning experiences.
- Creating a supportive and nurturing educational atmosphere.
- Collaborating within a Professional Learning Community (PLC) to meet IB standards.
- Adapting instruction to cater to individual student needs.
- Partnering with parents and guardians to address student requirements.
- Fostering a positive work environment for self and colleagues.
- Engaging in continuous professional development opportunities.
- Participating in regular staff meetings and PLCs.
- Consistently communicating classroom expectations, both academic and behavioral, with parents and students.
- Implementing daily experiential, project-based learning utilizing diverse media and environments.
- Integrating CREATION Health principles into daily lessons.
- Applying Conscious Discipline strategies for effective classroom management.
- Building relationships with parents to encourage their involvement in their child's education, including regular communication and meetings.
- Managing report cards, portfolios, grading systems, and character-based assessments.
- Providing ongoing updates to parents regarding student goals, progress, and areas for improvement, along with resource suggestions.
Instructional Practices:
- Reviewing IB grade-specific documents prior to teaching each unit.
- Mastering the integration of Approaches to Learning (ATL), Attitudes, Learner Profile, Central Ideas, and Themes into instructional practices.
- Actively participating in training sessions focused on best practices.
- Utilizing Creation Kids Village templates as a foundation for developing Weekly Lesson Plans while incorporating other approved resources.
- Monitoring student progress through established tracking systems aligned with grade-specific standards.
- Engaging in PLCs to foster a transdisciplinary approach to instruction and project-based learning.
- Completing reflection surveys and interviews to assess instructional effectiveness.
Student Development:
- Integrating Creation Kids Village's management and instructional routines.
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and developmentally appropriate classroom that promotes a safe and enjoyable learning environment.
- Observing, documenting, and reporting on each student's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
- Identifying students who may exhibit emotional, developmental, or health-related challenges and reporting these to the appropriate authorities.
- Collaborating with the Head of Academics to discuss student progress and needs, establishing priorities for learning and development.
- Leading or participating in extracurricular clubs, activities, or organizations as determined by the educator and Head of Academics.
Collaboration with School Community:
- Working alongside the administrative team to create an integrated educational experience throughout Creation Kids Village.
- Building partnerships within the community to enhance classroom activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience in an elementary school setting.
- Prior experience with the International Baccalaureate program is preferred.
- Proven reliability in previous employment.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies.
- Flexibility in classroom management and collaboration with colleagues.
Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to hear conversational voices, see and read standard print with or without corrective lenses, communicate effectively, lift and carry children and materials weighing up to 50 pounds, and utilize arms, hands, legs, and feet as necessary to perform job functions, including emergency evacuations.
