Position Summary:
The Primary Years Programme (PYP) Educator is accountable for the daily operations and oversight of essential knowledge areas within the classroom, reporting directly to the Head of Primary Years.
Core Objective:
The PYP Educator's mission is to deliver engaging and enriching educational experiences, with the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy and mission at the forefront of student learning. Educators are expected to design and execute a curriculum that nurtures the holistic development of each student, emphasizing the Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning. Prioritizing hands-on, project-based learning is essential to spark student curiosity and drive achievement. Additionally, fostering strong relationships with students and their families is crucial to integrating into the Creation Kids Village community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee a grade-level classroom, managing all facets of student growth and classroom dynamics.
- Craft stimulating curricula to enhance the educational experiences of students.
- Create a supportive and nurturing learning environment.
- Collaborate within a Professional Learning Community (PLC) to meet IB standards.
- Differentiate instruction to cater to the diverse needs of students.
- Engage with parents/guardians to address student requirements.
- Promote a positive work atmosphere for oneself and colleagues.
- Participate in ongoing professional development initiatives.
- Attend regular staff meetings and PLC sessions.
- Communicate classroom expectations consistently to parents and students.
- Facilitate daily experiential, project-based learning utilizing various media and environments.
- Integrate CREATION Health principles into daily lessons.
- Employ Conscious Discipline techniques for effective classroom management.
- Develop relationships with parents to encourage their involvement in their child's education, including regular communication and meetings.
- Implement report cards, portfolios, grading systems, and character-based assessments.
- Continuously update parents on student goals, progress, and areas for improvement, including resource suggestions and enrichment opportunities.
Implementation of the International Baccalaureate:
- Review IB grade-specific documents prior to teaching each unit.
- Achieve proficiency in integrating Approaches to Learning (ATL), Approaches to Teaching (ATT), Learner Profile, Central Ideas, and Themes into instructional practices.
- Actively engage in training related to best practices.
- Utilize Creation Kids Village IB Templates as a foundation for developing Weekly Lesson Plans while incorporating other approved resources.
- Monitor and track student progress using Toddle against grade-specific standards.
- Participate in PLCs to foster a transdisciplinary approach to instruction and integrate it into project-based learning.
- Complete reflection surveys and interviews as required.
Holistic Development of Students:
- Align with Creation Kids Village's classroom management, instructional strategies, and routines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and developmentally appropriate classroom that ensures a safe and enjoyable learning environment.
- Observe, evaluate, document, and report on each student's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
- Identify students exhibiting signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related issues and report these to the lead teacher or relevant authorities.
- Collaborate with the Head of Academics to discuss student progress and needs, establishing priorities for each student.
- Engage in leadership roles within extracurricular clubs, activities, or organizations as determined by the educator and Head of Academics.
Collaboration with School Community:
- Work alongside the administrative team to create an integrated educational experience throughout Creation Kids Village.
- Build partnerships within the community to enhance classroom activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in education.
- Minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience in Elementary School.
- Prior experience with the International Baccalaureate program.
- Proven reliability in previous employment.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies.
- Flexibility in classroom settings and collaboration with colleagues.
Physical Requirements:
Candidates must possess the ability to hear conversational voices, see and read printed materials with or without corrective lenses, communicate effectively, lift and carry children and materials weighing up to 50 pounds, and utilize limbs effectively to perform job duties, including emergency evacuations.
