Description

Overview:

The Accountant at Mount Desert Island Hospital (MDIH) will oversee the preparation and posting of all month-end journal entries. This role is essential for ensuring the reconciliation and resolution of variances for all assigned balance sheet accounts.

The Accountant will also be responsible for daily recording and tracking of all transactions related to the hospital's operating checking accounts.

Additionally, this position will provide functional oversight of cash posting activities to guarantee that all transactions are posted accurately and in a timely manner to the relevant general ledger accounts.

Preparation of monthly consolidated and departmental financial statements, along with any other state or federal financial reporting as assigned, will also be part of the responsibilities. This role will report directly to the Accounting Manager and is classified as a full-time, exempt position.

Qualifications:

Education and Certifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting is preferred; however, an Associate's Degree in Accounting or Business Management is required.


Experience:

A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Staff Accountant or in a higher-level accounting role is required.


Special Skills:

Proficiency in Excel is required. Experience with QuickBooks and Multiview is considered a plus. The ability to multitask effectively is essential.


Cognitive Skills:

The candidate must possess the ability to research and resolve issues independently.


Physical Requirements:

The role requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and may involve prolonged periods of sitting.


Work Environment:

Work will be conducted indoors.
