Job Summary

The Department of Corrections Executive Leadership is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the Supervising Officer 2 Statewide position. This role is responsible for overseeing the security, custody, and control of individuals in our care, as well as directing officer post and work assignments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the security and safety of individuals in our care, as well as the integrity of our facilities and operations.
  • Direct and supervise officer post and work assignments, including hiring, promotion, discipline, and grievance resolution.
  • Inspect institution departments and functions to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Assist, instruct, and counsel officers in their work, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Participate in the development, writing, and updating of policies and procedures, as well as implementing and interpreting them to lower-level officers and individuals in our care.
  • Deal with problems and issues that arise during institution rounds, including responding to requests for interviews and making recommendations on work assignments.
  • Serve as a member of the Program Review Committee, dealing with programming and classification of individuals in our care.
  • Conduct disciplinary hearings and notify appropriate individuals and agencies in the event of an emergency.
  • Coordinate security operations and assume the role of Chief Security Officer during evening hours or in the absence of the Security Director.
Requirements
  • Experience performing supervisory or lead worker-related activities, including assigning, directing, and evaluating work, as well as disciplinary matters, hiring, and providing training and mentoring.
  • Experience responding to and assuming command in emergency situations, such as physical altercations, medical emergencies, and crisis intervention.
  • Experience conducting investigations and coordinating with outside agencies.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining professional working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Well-qualified candidates will also have experience providing formal training, coaching, or mentorship to others, participating in multi-disciplinary teams, and assuming on-site responsibilities after normal business hours.
