Compensation: $15.91 per hour


Shifts available during weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

Minimum commitment of 12 hours per week required.

Annual average may reach up to 29 hours per week based on availability.

JOB SUMMARY

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This role is vital for ensuring the safety of all guests at the Aquatic Center. Duties are performed under the guidance of the Recreation Specialist.

KEY TASKS: (These tasks are illustrative of the various responsibilities expected.)

  • Encourages a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
  • Monitors patron behavior through deck patrols or from the lifeguard chair as directed.
  • Communicates facility policies and procedures in a friendly manner.
  • Provides necessary updates to individuals in the pool area.
  • Keeps accurate attendance records of facility users.
  • Administers rescues, C.P.R., and first aid as required.
  • Records pool and air temperatures and chemical levels in accordance with health regulations.
  • Alerts supervisors to any unsafe or unsanitary conditions.
  • Assists swim instructors with record keeping and equipment management.
  • Regulates the use of the water slide and monitors swimmer flow in other pool areas.
  • Participates in meetings, retraining, and staff in-services as necessary.
  • Performs minor maintenance and cleaning duties at the Aquatic Center.
  • Addresses patron concerns and escalates issues to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Acts as a reliable substitute when needed.
  • Completes other assigned tasks as necessary.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS - SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must hold current certifications in Lifeguard Training, C.P.R. for the Professional Rescuer, and Standard First Aid from a recognized organization (Jeff Ellis and Associates certification preferred) or be enrolled in a certified Lifeguard Training Program. If certified by another agency, certification through Jeff Ellis & Associates is required within 60 days of hire.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment water, C.P.R., and first aid assessments.
  • Minimum age requirement is 16 years.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to chemicals used in swimming pool environments.
  • Ability to communicate policies and procedures clearly and courteously with colleagues and the public.
  • Willingness to adhere to department uniform standards.
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and distress situations.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with a minimum availability of 12 hours per week.
  • This is an "At-Will" position: Work hours and assignments are subject to change based on availability and departmental needs.
