Role Summary
The Allergy Injection Room/Front Office Nurse is tasked with applying nursing knowledge and skills within their professional scope, operating under the guidance of management. This role involves respectful interaction with all personnel, delivering direct patient care during designated hours, engaging in departmental initiatives, fostering patient independence, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and organizational standards. The nurse also upholds the core values of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the injection area daily
- Administer allergy injections to patients
- Restock supplies as necessary and manage inventory through established procedures
- Maintain a daily log of services rendered and reconcile at day’s end
- Collect patient co-pays and issue receipts
- Timely reorder of medication vials
- Organize and manage refrigerated medications
- Record daily temperature logs for refrigeration units
- Monitor and update shot cards monthly, discarding expired items
- Ensure all consent forms are completed and explain policies to new patients
- Educate patients regarding first injection protocols
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations and policies
- Remain on-site for 30 minutes post-injection before breaks
- Maintain cleanliness in waiting and play areas
- Possess comprehensive knowledge of medications and treatment protocols
- Conduct monthly checks on emergency medications and reorder as needed
- Effectively implement emergency procedures
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management
- Carry out triage responsibilities
- Assist with closing procedures for the office
- Front Office Duties:
- Manage patient check-in/out and co-pay collection
- Schedule patient appointments
- Answer phone calls as required
- Generate end-of-day charge reports
- Update patient insurance information as necessary
Qualifications
Skills and Competencies
Effective communication abilities, including:
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Ability to interpret safety guidelines, policies, and patient care documentation
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with staff and patients
Education and Experience Requirements
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) with an active Ohio Nursing License or eNLC multistate license
- Minimum of 6 months experience in a healthcare setting
- Preferred experience in allergy or asthma care
- Current CPR certification
- Valid Driver's License
- Successful completion of background checks and screenings
- Ability to travel to various locations as needed
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Demonstrated ability to interact positively with patients
- Ability to work independently
- Proficient computer skills
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The physical demands of this position require the employee to regularly use hands for handling and control, reach with arms, and communicate effectively. The role may involve standing or walking for the majority of the shift, with occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.
Work Environment
The work environment is typically moderate in noise level with standard lighting. Employees may encounter infectious materials and allergens.
