Role Responsibilities:
The Community Safety Operations Officer is tasked with various responsibilities including the reception, transmission, and documentation of communications via a radio system within a municipal safety framework. This position supports law enforcement and emergency personnel as required and engages in additional operational duties. The officer operates under the general oversight of the shift commander within the Patrol Division, necessitating independent judgment to effectively dispatch personnel in response to service requests and emergencies. Responsibilities include managing both emergency and non-emergency calls, assisting in the physical management of detained individuals, and processing arrestees.
Key Duties Include:
- Receiving and relaying radio communications to safety personnel
- Maintaining accurate logs of all communications
- Operating necessary computer systems and LEIN terminals
- Preparing reports and maintaining records
- Performing jail attendant functions, including searches, fingerprinting, and processing court documentation
- Assisting with the physical management of detained individuals when necessary
- Providing support in front desk operations, animal control, and traffic management as needed
- Handling all department phone inquiries, including emergency calls
- Carrying out additional assigned duties
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Physical stamina to manage physical situations and assist in restraining individuals
- Typing proficiency of 40 words per minute
- Ability to remain composed and respond effectively in emergencies
- Proficient operation of required office equipment, including LEIN terminals
- Accurate record-keeping and report preparation skills
- Strong auditory comprehension and clear communication abilities in high-pressure situations
- Capacity to quickly learn job functions and relevant regulations
Essential Functions:
- Ability to multitask, including operating multiple systems while engaging in conversation
- Willingness to work various shifts throughout the week
- Capability to learn the operation of a radio communication system
- Familiarity with local laws and regulations
- Knowledge of local geography
- Ability to follow both oral and written instructions
- Establishing effective working relationships with colleagues
- Interacting with the public in a respectful and courteous manner
