Job Summary:

The Hospital Admissions Representative is a critical role within our organization, responsible for ensuring seamless patient registration and admissions processes. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for obtaining and verifying demographic information, insurance benefits, and eligibility. Your attention to detail and excellent communication skills will be essential in providing accurate billing and clinical information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain complete and accurate demographic and financial information from patients, physician offices, and in-house departments.
  • Obtain required signatures on legal consents and insurance forms.
  • Perform pre-certification, credit referral, or deposit collection, and enter data into computer systems.
  • Notify patients, family members, physicians, and supervisors of insurance coverage issues, and document all information in computer systems.
  • Review physician orders for completion and ensure all required information is listed.
  • Complete Medicare Compliance and obtain ABN if necessary.
  • Maintain knowledge of Federal, State, and Local Laws pertaining to insurance rules and regulations.
  • Maintain multiple computer systems and provide positive customer service at all times.
  • Answer telephone calls, follow pre-established scripts, and provide assistance to callers.
  • Complete all shift duties in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Comply with all safety regulations, policies, and procedures as defined by the organization.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a medical setting or heavy customer service environment utilizing data entry skills, insurance, or other online websites and various software applications.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 35 WPM.
  • Medical terminology knowledge or ability to learn.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or ability to obtain within 90 days from start date.
  • Ability to obtain AVADE training offered by MLK Community Hospital within 30 days from start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of Emergency Department admitting experience.
