Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of R&D for North American Hand Tools, the Senior Project Engineer will spearhead a team of Product Development Engineers dedicated to the research, development, and successful introduction of innovative products to the market.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage cost, quality, and delivery for new product development initiatives, ongoing product support, and cost enhancement programs.
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for the product categories under your purview.
- Product categories encompass measuring & layout, storage, and lifting solutions.
- Act as a vital source of expertise and authority in the technologies, processes, and cost considerations related to product design.
- Collaborate closely with the Project Management Office to ensure adherence to project timelines. Proactively drive New Product Development (NPD) projects with a strong sense of urgency.
- Engage with suppliers, manufacturing engineering, and operations to troubleshoot issues and optimize designs for manufacturability and efficiency. Ensure that designs are both cost-effective and manufacturable.
- Work directly with internal business units and global integrated supply chain teams to contribute effectively to new product development and support initiatives focused on quality, reliability, and cost reduction.
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
- Over 10 years of experience and expertise in part design, material selection, processing, tooling design, failure analysis, and testing.
- Preferred experience of 3+ years in leading engineering teams with a proven record of successful product launches.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with both domestic and international cross-functional teams.
- Innovative mindset, with a commitment to continuous improvement for oneself, the team, and processes.
- Proficient in executing complex problem-solving techniques related to technical challenges.
- Sound judgment and instincts for mechanical and structural design.
- Excellent analytical abilities, capable of planning, organizing, and implementing multiple concurrent tasks.
- Familiarity with CAD software such as CREO, SolidWorks, Inventor, etc., with a preference for CREO.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Design for Six Sigma is advantageous.
- Knowledge of fits & finishes and GD&T.
- Familiarity with PPAP, DFM/A, DVP&R, DFMEA, and PFMEA.
