Description

This role is dedicated to assisting students from Preschool through age 21, including those with profound disabilities and learning challenges, as they work towards earning High School credits. The position involves collaboration with external agencies to coordinate services for students and working alongside Home Hospital educators.
  • FTE: 0.5
  • CONTRACT TYPE: CONTINUING

Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate as a member of the district's multidisciplinary team to assist in assessing eligibility and developing instructional and behavioral goals for students with disabilities.
  2. Create, implement, and assess Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) based on assessment data and monitor student progress using a data-driven approach.
  3. Deliver educational services to special education students with severe intellectual, physical, or multiple disabilities, focusing on teaching functional life skills for greater independence.
  4. Design and oversee tailored instruction that accommodates individual learning styles and achievement levels, addressing academic deficiencies and enhancing communication and social skills.
  5. Apply principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to inform instructional strategies in the classroom.
  6. Maintain accurate records and collect data for each student to evaluate the effectiveness of instructional and behavioral interventions.
  7. Provide consultation and follow-up support to general education teachers, parents, and community agencies to facilitate successful transitions for students.
  8. Adhere to district policies and administrative directives relevant to educational standards.
  9. Foster a structured and positive learning environment that encourages student achievement and effectively manage both group and individual instruction.
  10. Integrate technology into planning, learning, and record-keeping processes.
  11. Participate in ongoing intervention team meetings to review student performance and adjust instructional strategies as necessary.
  12. Maintain professional knowledge and expertise by participating in district-level program requirements and training.
  13. Possess reliable transportation and be willing to travel to students' homes as needed.
  14. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
  1. Valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements.
  2. Experience in special education or a related field within a public high school environment.
  3. Understanding of compliance requirements under P.L. and 504 for providing services to students with disabilities.
  4. Effective classroom management skills for both large and small groups.
  5. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral forms.
  6. Flexibility in learning new concepts and adapting to various assignments.
  7. Enthusiastic approach to teaching and student engagement.
  8. Ability to assess student needs and implement effective instructional strategies.
  9. Build respectful relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  10. Demonstrate cultural competence and relate positively to diverse groups.
  11. Willingness to engage in professional development and collaboration.
