Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States The Aerospace Corporation Full time

The Aerospace Corporation stands as a premier ally to the nation's space initiatives, tackling complex challenges and delivering unparalleled technical knowledge. As the operator of a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), we engage comprehensively across all dimensions of space—offering innovative solutions that encompass satellite, launch, ground, and cyber systems for defense, civil, and commercial clients. By joining our team, you will become part of a distinguished group of problem solvers, thought leaders, and innovators. Embrace your role in advancing space exploration.

At Aerospace, we prioritize fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace where all employees can contribute to our shared mission—one that transcends individual aspirations.

The Defense Systems Group (DSG) delivers analysis-driven decision support to senior officials regarding space architectures, policies, strategies, developmental planning, system-of-systems engineering, and threat mitigation, shaping future space missions within the national security space framework. DSG is distinctive at Aerospace, as it not only directly aids major clients, including the United States Space Force, United States Space Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a wide array of services across the national space enterprise, maintaining both vertical and horizontal responsibilities.

This role seeks a visionary leader who will enhance the transformation of the USSF, particularly by infusing analytical rigor into the requirements development processes. The ideal candidate will bring extensive technical expertise to conduct gap analyses and develop requirements that support rapid prototyping and long-term acquisition of USSF capabilities. A strong foundation in technical analysis, depth of knowledge, and familiarity with USSF or USAF operations is essential. Proficiency in drafting and managing joint requirements will be highly advantageous. Responsibilities will include identifying, developing, and recommending capability needs for USSF. The successful candidate will collaborate with USSF support entities to conduct thorough requirements analysis and documentation.

Work Model

This position is strictly onsite at our Colorado Springs facility and is not suitable for telecommuting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate user needs into formal requirements for space capabilities to fulfill Combatant Command Operational Plans.
  • Provide detailed technical expertise to assist in gap analysis and requirements identification, which may involve the formal JCIDS process or other acquisition methodologies.
  • Collaborate closely with SSC, SpOC, and STARCOM colleagues to refine operational CONOPs for space capabilities and align them with validated performance metrics.
  • Contribute to a cross-functional team focused on emerging space needs and capabilities, such as sustained space maneuver.
  • Play a pivotal role in enhancing the readiness of the space enterprise for great power competition.
  • Facilitate connections between SpOC and STARCOM and the Aerospace technical framework, bridging technical and operational domains.

Qualifications for Success

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a science, mathematics, or engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible professional experience relevant to the position.
  • Functional awareness and working knowledge of USSF warfighting capabilities, requirements, and operations.

  • Experience in developing or managing joint requirements and associated systems engineering processes.
  • Experience with space systems in a joint warfighting context.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Current SSBI and eligibility for a Top Secret SCI clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Willingness to travel domestically.

Preferred Qualifications

It would be advantageous if you possess one or more of the following:

  • Education and/or experience in Systems Engineering or Operations Research.
  • Experience with military utility analysis.
  • Experience in developing test plans and requirements verification processes.
  • Deep technical experience in specific USSF capability areas, particularly in MW/OPIR, Combat Power, and/or space C2.
  • Understanding of the USSF approach to warfare.
  • Current applicable SAP/SAR accesses.
  • Advanced degree in engineering, mathematics, science, computer science, or other technical fields.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Experience in developing architecture-level plans for space capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Air Force/National Security Space enterprise architecture.
  • Experience in addressing large, complex issues and the ability to decompose problems into actionable steps.
