Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States The Aerospace Corporation Full time

The Aerospace Corporation stands as a pivotal ally to the nation's space initiatives, tackling complex challenges and offering unparalleled technical acumen. As the steward of a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), we engage comprehensively across the spectrum of space—providing inventive solutions that encompass satellite, launch, ground, and cyber systems for defense, civil, and commercial sectors. Joining our team means becoming part of a distinguished group of problem solvers, thought leaders, and innovators. Embrace your role in advancing space exploration.

At Aerospace, we prioritize fostering an inclusive and diverse environment where all employees can unite in our shared mission—pursuing objectives that transcend individual interests.

The Defense Systems Group (DSG) offers analysis-driven decision support to high-ranking officials regarding space architectures, policies, strategies, developmental planning, and threat mitigation, thereby influencing future space missions within the national security space framework. DSG is distinct within Aerospace, as it not only directly aids major clients, including the United States Space Force, United States Space Command, and senior Pentagon leadership, but also delivers a wide array of services and support throughout the national space landscape, maintaining both vertical and horizontal responsibilities.

This role is designed for a visionary leader who will facilitate the transformation of the USSF, particularly by enhancing analytical rigor in the requirements development process. The ideal candidate will bring extensive technical expertise to conduct gap analyses and develop requirements that support both rapid prototyping and long-term acquisition strategies for USSF capabilities. A solid foundation in technical analysis, depth of knowledge, and familiarity with USSF or USAF operations is essential. Proficiency in drafting and managing joint requirements will be highly advantageous. The responsibilities will include identifying, developing, and recommending capability needs for the USSF. The successful candidate will collaborate with USSF support entities to conduct thorough requirements analysis and documentation.

Work Model

This position requires full-time presence at our facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate user requirements into formal specifications for space capabilities to fulfill Combatant Command Operational Plans.
  • Provide detailed technical insights to assist in gap analysis and requirement identification, which may involve formal processes such as JCIDS or middle-tier acquisition.
  • Collaborate closely with SSC, SpOC, and STARCOM colleagues to refine operational concepts for space capabilities and correlate them with validated performance metrics.
  • Lead or contribute to a cross-functional team addressing emerging space needs and capabilities.
  • Play a crucial role in enhancing the readiness of the space enterprise for strategic competition.
  • Facilitate connections between SpOC and STARCOM and the Aerospace technical framework, bridging technical and operational domains.

Qualifications for Success

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as science, mathematics, or engineering.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience pertinent to the role.
  • Functional understanding of USSF warfighting capabilities, requirements, and operations.
  • Experience with concepts related to sustained space maneuver and dynamic space operations.
  • Proficiency in developing or managing joint requirements and associated systems engineering processes.
  • Experience in space systems within a joint warfighting context.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Possession of a current SSBI and eligibility for a Top Secret SCI clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.
  • Willingness to travel domestically.

Preferred Qualifications

It would be beneficial if you possess one or more of the following:

  • Education or experience in Systems Engineering or Operations Research.
  • Experience in military utility analysis.
  • Experience in developing test plans and requirements verification processes.
  • Deep technical expertise in specific USSF capability areas, particularly in MW/OPIR, Combat Power, or space C2.
  • Understanding of the USSF's approach to warfare.
  • Current applicable SAP/SAR accesses.
  • Advanced degree in a technical discipline.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Experience in developing architectural plans for space capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Air Force/National Security Space enterprise architecture.
  • Knowledge of Aerospace Engineering and Technology Group capabilities.
  • Experience managing complex issues and breaking them down into actionable steps.
