We are currently inviting applications for the role of INSTRUCTOR PILOT.

IMPORTANT:

Applicants for this position are subject to Government approval and must adhere to a 12-month Employee Training Agreement. Those selected for employment will need to successfully pass a U.S. Government background security check and complete both training and a government acceptance checkride.

Selected candidates will be responsible for providing instruction in the UH-72 helicopter. While military aviation experience or UH-72 qualification is not a prerequisite, candidates should be prepared for a rigorous training environment.

FLYING HELICOPTERS demands specialized skills and extensive training. The individuals who operate Army helicopters are tasked with executing challenging missions, often under perilous conditions. They command a sophisticated fleet, including Apaches, Blackhawks, and Chinooks, for various operations such as reconnaissance, transport, and combat.

At the US Army Aviation Center of Excellence, aviation professionals from Amentum train Army helicopter pilots, producing approximately 1,000 graduates each year. Since 1989, our instructors have successfully trained over 25,000 student pilots, primarily entry-level soldiers with minimal flying experience. This institution is recognized as the largest rotary wing flight school globally, serving not only the Army but also the Air Force, NATO, and allied nations.

From theoretical aviation concepts to simulator training and actual flight instruction, Amentum instructors guide undergraduate student pilots through comprehensive training programs designed to prepare them for the challenges of combat.

Safety is a top priority in every aspect of our training, and our program boasts an exceptional safety record, having accumulated over 2.3 million hours of flight instruction.

Classes are conducted in shifts, beginning early in the morning and extending late into the night, within a training area that spans over 40,000 square miles. As student pilots will eventually engage in combat scenarios, developing leadership skills is also a critical component of the training.

The training program is conducted at an Army installation with a diverse student population and is managed as a collaborative effort between the Army and Amentum. This partnership exemplifies how the Department of Defense has entrusted mission-critical technical and management tasks to Amentum. As a leading multi-service contractor, Amentum is committed to working alongside the armed forces to safeguard American interests both domestically and internationally.

Requirements:

  • Possession of an ICAO equivalent or FAA commercial pilot certificate and an ICAO equivalent or FAA flight instructor certificate with rotorcraft category, helicopter class, and instrument helicopter ratings on both certificates, or graduation from any DOD rotary wing instructor pilot course for rotary wing aircraft.
  • Documented total flight time, including hours as pilot-in-command or second in command, is required.
  • Certification of a combination of 100 hours of hooded instrument, flight simulator instrument, or weather pilot time.
  • Experience instructing students in instrument flight training.
  • Minimum of 75 hours of night flying experience.
  • Instructor time is also required.
  • A current FAA Second Class Medical Certificate must be obtained prior to commencing MOI training.
  • Weight must not exceed 250 pounds in flight duty uniform.
  • Ability to successfully pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
