Position Overview

ROLE SUMMARY

The Chief Marketing and Communications Officer (CMCO) plays a pivotal role in shaping and promoting the brand identity of the Martin Luther King Jr Center for Non Violent Social Change. This leadership position is tasked with enhancing the organization's visibility and outreach on both national and international platforms. The CMCO will direct all marketing, branding, and communication strategies, ensuring a cohesive approach across various channels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and explore new market opportunities by analyzing industry trends and recognizing potential avenues for advancing the organization's mission.
  • Lead a dedicated team in crafting and executing comprehensive marketing and communication strategies that foster engagement and align with organizational goals.
  • Establish and monitor clear marketing and communication objectives, implementing evaluation mechanisms to assess effectiveness and inform future strategies.
  • Provide daily guidance, mentorship, and support to marketing and communications staff to optimize their performance.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of program priorities through stakeholder engagement and strategic analysis to develop impactful messaging.
  • Incorporate innovative technologies and solutions to enhance user experiences related to the organization's mission.
  • Proactively address marketing and communication challenges, identifying emerging issues that may affect the organization.
  • Collaborate on the creation of a membership network that offers tailored benefits based on contribution levels.
  • Oversee the development and management of website content and social media strategies.
  • Maintain regular communication with leadership to ensure alignment in messaging and branding efforts.
  • Design and implement a marketing strategy aimed at increasing revenue, including enhancements to the online bookstore.
  • Devise creative marketing approaches for signature programs and initiatives.
  • Work closely with teams to gather insights on the effectiveness of marketing materials and campaigns.
  • Develop a cause marketing initiative to enhance the visibility of key organizational events.
  • Oversee the creation of a detailed marketing plan encompassing major events and programs, media relations, and promotional materials.
  • Enhance brand recognition and strengthen the organization's reputation among stakeholders and the global community.
  • Present marketing and communication strategies to the Board of Directors.
  • Facilitate brainstorming sessions with senior leadership to explore innovative monetization strategies for initiatives.
  • Build a socially impactful brand that exemplifies the principles of nonviolence, social justice, and community engagement.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong focus on execution and results.
  • Bachelor's degree required, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing.
  • Experience in nonprofit marketing and social media management.
  • Understanding of mass communication laws related to intellectual property.
  • Strong entrepreneurial mindset with sound business judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Experience in the creative process, including brand strategy and multimedia content creation.
  • Familiarity with the leadership principles of Dr. and Mrs. King and a commitment to social impact.
  • Demonstrated success in managing strategic marketing and communications initiatives.
  • Creative and innovative thinker with the ability to simplify complex concepts.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong track record of achieving measurable outcomes in competitive communication settings.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing strategies, including SEO/SEM.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel as needed.
