The Communication Officer plays a crucial role in the E-911 Department, tasked with managing both emergency and non-emergency communications. This position is essential for ensuring the safety and well-being of the community by effectively dispatching information to various response teams.
Key Responsibilities- Handle emergency calls with efficiency, gathering critical information swiftly to determine the appropriate response and dispatch necessary personnel.
- Manage non-emergency inquiries, directing callers to the right resources or personnel, and ensuring all messages are accurately recorded.
- Monitor radio communications from various law enforcement and public safety agencies, responding to situations as they arise.
- Maintain regular communication with field units, assessing their safety and dispatching backup when required.
- Process teletypes related to criminal activities, vehicle registrations, and other pertinent information.
- Keep detailed logs of all communications, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Respond to alarms and coordinate police presence for local businesses and residences.
- Assist with jail operations as needed, including monitoring security systems and communicating with inmates.
- Participate in ongoing training programs to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to the position.
The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED and demonstrate the ability to acquire necessary certifications. A strong understanding of communication protocols and the ability to maintain confidentiality is essential. Candidates should have excellent listening and communication skills, with the capacity to manage stressful situations effectively.
Work EnvironmentThis role primarily takes place in an office setting, with exposure to high-pressure situations. The incumbent will be required to work irregular hours and maintain focus during extended periods of seated work.
